Leads lost as BCHS swept at home | HS Sports
Saturday was the final non-region games for BCHS as they welcomed longtime rival Dodge County to Cochran. Both the boys and girls would see second half leads fade.
The Lady Royals led by 12 in the fourth on a Dewanda Blackshear three. The Squaws went ahead on an 18-3 run. Tia Troup's basket with 45 seconds left put Bleckley back on top. After missing a one if one on their next possession, Dodge had the ball. Bleckley tried to force a jump ball with ten seconds left but officials called a foul. In the double bonus, both free throws were hit.
Both a game winning three and game tying jumper were missed as Dodge won 53-52. BC went 5 of 26 from the free throw line. Blackshear had 16 points. Troup scored 13. MyEsha Moore had 10.
The Royals seven-point lead in the third was down to two as the fourth quarter began. DCHS went up six on a 14-4 run. Shaunkendrick Brown's twelfth point of the fourth cut the deficit to two with 25 seconds. left DC hit one of two foul shots.
A game-tying three with ten seconds left was short. Though the Indians missed both free throws with five seconds left, a putback sealed Bleckley's 55-50 loss. Brown had 16 points. D'Andre Pitts had 13. Jeremy Marshall had 12 left.
The 2014 Sweetheart Court will be presented during halftime of Tuesday's boys home game versus Monticello. Varsity girls tip at 6 p.m.
