BCHS to begin basketball region playoffs next week

The Lady Royals and Putnam County have been tied in the region standings since BC lost to the Lady Eagles on January 21.  A coin toss was held Thursday to determine top seed for next week's playoffs should the teams remain tied.  Bleckley won.

This year, the top girls seed will host the 4-AA semifinals and finals.  Saturday afternoon, BCHS made up last week's postponed games with Taylor County in Cochran.  The Lady Royals won 56-35, thus clinching top seed.   They will play at home Friday at 7 pm.

The Royals were already eighth seed before Saturday's game.  BC lost to the Vikings 72-49 and will take on Macon County in a 7-8 play in game.  That contest will take place Monday at the home of the girls seventh seed, Lamar County.  Tip time is 7:30 pm.

Leading scorers from Saturday's games.  Girls:  MyEsha Moore with 19 points.  Tia Troup with 14 points. Dewanda Blackshear with 11 points.  Boys: Shaunkendrick Brown scored 20 points.  Jeremey Marshall had 16.  DJ Lemmon scored 10.
