Bleckley Finishes Tops in 3B-AA with Win at Dodge County

They say "the third time's the charm."   Going into Tuesday's final regular season game, Dodge County had won both games against Bleckley this season.  The Royals would pick up a win when it helped them the most.  Up 3-2 after one inning, Ben Harris' RBI single made it 4-2.  Pitching would then take over.  Dylan Churchwell got out of a bases loaded, no outs jam in the bottom of the third.  After five innings, play was stopped due to lightning being detected in the area.  Once things began, Bleckley appeared ready to expand their lead  with runners at second and third, just one out.

Dodge's Aron Chick would not allow a run.  In the bottom of the seventh, Chick's one out double cut the lead to one.  Kace Kirkpatrick came in.  He faced three batters, the only baserunner reached on an error, to get the save in a 4-3 win.  Churchwell went 6 1/3, giving up one earned run, five hits, five walks, striking out five.  He was also 2 for 3 with a double.  Chastain Coleman was 3 for 4.  Cal Young went 2 for 4 with an RBI double.  Bryant Trice was 1 for 2 with a double.

With the win, Bleckley clinched the subregion title and a top seed in the upcoming 3-AA playoffs.  They host Swainsboro, fourth seed in 3A-AA, Saturday.  Game one is at noon with game two to follow 30 minutes later.
