Lady Royals Advance to Region 4-AA Championship Game | HS Sports
Monday was a long day at the ballfield. On that, fans of Bleckley and Putnam would agree. However, though both groups were tired, the Lady Royals and their supporters were a good kind of tired. Because Bleckley had won both games of the Region 4-AA semifinals and will play for the championship Thursday.
The start was delayed over an hour due to field repair after a sudden downpour. Game one saw the Lady Royals build a 5-3 lead but fail to capitaize on numerous scoring opportunities including leaving the bases loaded in the first inning. Putnam tied the score at five in the sixth. BCHS left runners at second and third in both the sixth and seventh innings.
The Lady Eagles took the lead on an unearned run in the eighth. Kelsey Darsey walked to lead off the home half. Lindsey Dabbs bunted her way on with two outs. Emmie Meadows laced a double into the left field corner to give Bleckley a 7-6 win. Meadows finished 3 for 5 with 2 RBI. Dabbs was 3 for 5. Leslie Holland went 2 for 3.
Putnam was home team in game two. They took a 6-2 lead after two innings. Joanna Knight's two-run double was part of a four-run reply by BC in the third. A dropped fly ball in the fourth made it 7-6 but the bases were left loaded. Elizabeth Mathis had a second straight RBI hit and Lindsey Dabbs followed with a hit to make it 10-6 in the seventh.
PC loaded the bases in their half of the seventh, scoring twice. Bleckley would hold on though for a 10-8 win. Knight went 2 for 5. Dabbs was 5 for 5 with a pair of doubles. Mathis was 2 for 5. Meadows was 2 for 5 with a double.
BCHS will host the winner of Crawford County versus Monticello Thursday with a start time to be determined.
