Royals, Lady Royals, Advance to 4-AA Title Games | HS Sports
It was a big day for basketball as BCHS as both teams were one game away from playing for a region title. The Royals were looking for their third title game appearance under Cliff Kerbo, the Lady Royals their first under Jenny Manning.
Both teams would be successful. Cam Tillman had eight points in the first, Tia Troup eight in the second as the Lady Royals led 37-18 at halftime over Monticello. Troup scored four in the final minute of the third to help push the lead over 30. Bleckley rolled over the Lady Hurricanes 73-36. Troup scored a career best 25. Tillman had 18. Dewanda Blackshear added 11.
Mario Beck had five points in the final four minutes of the second quarter and Rydealous Taylor hit a pair of free throws with five seconds left as the Royals rallied from a ten-point deficit versus Northeast to tie the score at 26. Taylor hit a buzzer-beating three to end the third.to draw BC within two.
Beck scored nine of his 16 fourth quarter points in the first five minutes as the Royals pulled ahead. What was an eight-point lead with less than two minutes left was cut to two on back to back Raider threes but the Royals went on to win 65-62. Beck finished with 31. Taylor scored 14.
Saturday's region championship games will be against Taylor County. Girls play at 7, boys 8:30 p.m.
