Lady Royals Advance to Elite Eight | HS Sports
The Dublin Lady Irish had won their last five meetings versus Bleckley including this year by three and one points. Friday, the Lady Royals had a chance to avenge those losses as well as secure a berth in the elite eight for the first time in recent memory.
After scoring just two points in the first quarter, Tia Troup scored ten in the second to help BC to a 37-25 halftime lead. N'yasia Anderson had 15 at halftime, including ten in the first. The advantage grew to 17 in the third but Dublin was within 12 going to the fourth.
Anderson's three with under six minutes left was the last made basket. However, seven of ten foul shooting in the final five plus minutes helped BCHS advance 67-60. Troup scored 24. Anderson had 22.
Head coach Jenny Manning wasn't surprised that free throw were a factor. "We'd been telling them all along it was gonna come down to free throws. Some nights we struggle with it (free throws), some nights we don't. Tonight we didn't."
The Lady Royals play at Thomasville Tuesday at 6 pm. The Royals will try to advance to the elite eight when they play at Westside-Augusta Saturday. Tip time is 5 pm.
