New BCHS Football Coach Looks Forward to Coming Home

Tracy White is coming home.

After serving almost 20 years in the Dublin City school system as a teacher and coach, the 41-year-old White begins his newest journey March 1st as the head football coach at Bleckley County High School in Cochran.

White, who graduated in 1988 from Bleckley County High School, where he was a standout athlete, is excited. “I am feeling everything from excitement, to every realm of emotion – anxiety, happiness, and nervousness. I don't want to disappoint anyone. I just want Bleckley County to be successful and do well.”

The decision was made by the Bleckley County Board of Education at its last board meeting.

Bleckley Gets Past Northeast to Advance in State Playoffs

After trailing for much of the first half, the Royals opened the third on a 20-2 run to erase a six-point deficit. 

Up 15 in the fourth, Bleckley see their lead dwindle to two with 10 seconds left but hung on to win 56-53.  Marcus Mack had 11, Ken Hughes added 10.

BCHS Picks Up Sweep of Franklin County

Frankie Lee Mullis hit a solo home run with two outs in the fifth inning of game one to tie the score versus Franklin County.  Cal Young drove in the go-ahead run with a single.  Pitcher Kace Kirkpatrick escaped a bases loaded, no outs jam unscathed in the sixth as the Royals got win one of the season 2-1 in game one of a home doubleheader with the Lions. 

In game two, Bryant Trice got his first hit of the season, a two-out RBI double in the first to put Bleckley on top.  Trice smacked a three-run home run with two outs in the third.  Young had a two-out RBI single in the sixth to make it 5-0.  BCHS would survive a seventh-inning push by Franklin to win 5-3.  Trice finished 2 for 3 with 4 RBI.  Young was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.  Mullis went 1 for 2 with a triple. 

Bleckley hosts Hawkinsville Monday. 

JV play at 4 pm with varsity to follow.

Bleckley Loses Home Opener to Howard

The Howard Huskies scored four runs in the first and three in the third to take a 7-0 lead over Bleckley in their home opener Tuesday. 

Cal Young, who singled to lead off the sixth, scored the Royals only run in the bottom of the sixth as BCHS went on to lose 8-1. 

Howard's eight runs were aided by five BC errors. 

Young was 1 for 2.  Chastain Coleman had two of Bleckley's four hits, going 2 for 3. 

Due to a threat of rain Friday, a home doubleheader versus Franklin County has been moved from Friday to Thursday at 4 pm.  The Lions are led by former Royals coach Brent Honeywell.

Royals Fall in Region 3-AA Title Game

Despite a big night by Marcus Mack (18 points on six of six shooting from three-point range) Bleckley gave up an 11-1 run in the second, and had scoring droughts of at least three minutes in the third and fourth quarters as they lost to Laney 59-49 in Saturday's Regon 3-AA title game.  Mario Beck scored 14. 

Quan Fleming had nine off the bench.  The runner-up finish is Bleckley's highest in region since 2007. 

BCHS will host Northeast in the first round of state February 25.  Tip time is 6 p.m.

BCHS Falls to Hawkinsville in Baseball Opener

The Royals trailed 1-0 going into the sixth inning of their game in Hawkinsville Monday.  Chatain Coleman's one-out single tied the score. 

A two-out double by Kyle Brown put Bleckley on top.  Though escaping a two on, one out jam in the sixth, Hawkinsville's Tyler Keen held BC to just a single in the seventh. 

The Red Devils scored twice in the bottom of the inning (one run was unearned) as BCHS lost 3-2.  Dylan Churchwell was 2 for 3 with a double. 

Coleman was 1 for 2.

Bleckley pitching gave up one earned run but allowed a Hawkinsville base runner in every inning.  Keen struck out 11. 

The Royals home opener is Tuesday at 5:30 pm versus Howard.
