GHSA Approves Reclassification

The Georgia High School Association committee unamamously approved a 6 classification change this morning in Thomaston, to become effective fall of 2012 through 2014. The divide is based on the student population of individual schools and will determine the competitve schedule for athletics, academics and extracurricular activities.

The move is the first for the state to have 6 classifications, since adapting to 5 in 2000. Several central Georgia athletic directors were in attendance of the meeting and are in support with the switch, including Southwest Macon's Carror Wright, Mary Person's Rodney Walker and Bleckley County's athletic director Sam Barrs, who is also a GHSA committee member.

BCHS Wins Region 3-AA Cheerleading Championship

BCHS Wins Region 3-AA Cheerleading Championship

The Bleckley competition cheer squad took the mat at Saturday's Middle Georgia Region Cheer Championships at a bit of a disadvantage.

One of their squad members had suffered a dislocated kneecap late in the week.

However, she would competed anyway.

The Royals stuck all their stunts, and benefitted from adding in tumbling during the week as they had what fans felt was one of their best performances of the season.

3-AA was the first of three regions that competed Saturday at Mercer's University Center.  Competition had began about 1 p.m.  Around 4 p.m, it was time for results.  3-AA was read first.  4th place: Southeast Bulloch.  3rd place: Screven County.  Region runner-up: Dodge County.

Then, PA announcer Tren Hester said words that sent the Bleckley squad and supporters into a joyous frenzy.

Royals Fall to Fourth in Region

Bleckley was held to 109 total yards, 43 rushing, and gave up 243 rushing yards in a 35-0 home loss Friday to Jefferson County.  JCHS scored 14 points off of two Royal interceptions.  The loss ends BC's four-game win streak.  It also means BCHS will be the fourth seed in the upcoming state playoffs.

The Royals play at Lamar County (4-AA #1 seed) November 11.  Bleckley and Lamar have split their last two meetings with the Royals overcoming a 13-0 deficit to win 27-19 in Barnesville in 2010 and falling at home to the Trojans 27-21 this year.
