School board hears concerns over naming of athletic field

Two groups addressed the Dodge County School Board concerning the naming of the athletic field at their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, September 8, 2011. The American Legion Post 126 and the local branch of the NAACP presented information to the board and made requests to the board to rescind their action concerning the naming of the field. Board members Kim Sheffield and Chuck Parkerson were not in attendance.

Royals Get Past East Laurens for Football Win

Bleckley had won their last three games versus East Laurens going to Friday's contest in Cochran.  It was a busy night as both the Royals and Falcons were taking part in "Change For A Cure" as part of childhood cancer awareness month.  Buckets were set up to collect change, all of which went to the Joanna McAffee Foundation For Childhood Cancer.  Players from both teams wore a silhouette of McAffee on their helmets.

Warriors lose against Dublin

The Dodge County Middle School Warriors opened their 2011 football season last Wednesday as they hosted Dublin. The Warriors unfortunately would struggle throughout as they dropped a 40-0 game to the Irish. Dodge will try to get in the win column this Thursday as they travel to Dublin to play West Laurens.

Bleckey Finishes First, Dodge Second, in Region 3B-AA Standings

Thursday was the day that playoff seeding for the upcoming region playoffs would be decided as both Bleckley and Dodge had their final subregion games.  Bleckley played at Dublin High School and won 27-0. 

Dodge rallied from a 6-5 deficit to win 11-6 at East Laurens. 

Based upon the tiebreaker of region runs allowed, BCHS will be the top seed from the subregion in the upcoming playoffs.  Both teams will host first-round series.  Last year saw Bleckley and Dodge make it to the region championship series with Dodge winning two games to one.

Bleckley plays on September 21 at Crisp County.  Game time has been moved to 5:30 pm.  Dodge plays Monday at Northside, Warner Robins.  Start time is 6 p.m.

Lady Royals celebrate senior night with win over East Laurens

Bleckley closed out their home regular season Tuesday versus East Laurens.  Before the game, senior ballplayers and parents were recognized.  When it was time to take the field, it was a good finale for the seniors as a pair of four-run innings powered BC to an 8-0 win in five innings.  Marlee Bryan gave up one hit and struck out six.  Katie Simmons was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.  Taylor Little and Lana Maddox were 2 for 3.  Kelsey Darsey was 1 for 2.

Thursday closes out sub-region play when BCHS plays at Dublin.  Game time is 5 pm.  Of note is Dodge County's sub-region finale Thursday at East Laurens at 5 pm.  Both teams are tied in 3B-AA standings both have allowed the same number of runs. 

The next tiebreaker is region runs allowed. 

Dodge currently has the edge in that tiebreaker as they shut out East Laurens in their first meeting while Bleckley won 15-2.

Bleckley picks up football win at Southeast Bulloch

A somewhat healthier Royals football team took the field in Brooklet Friday night looking for their first win of 2011.  Taking advantage of a Yellow Jacket fumble, Tavon Ross hit Jaquante Burns for a 30-yard touchdown pass in the first to put Bleckley on top.  Blake Lucas had a 41-yard field goal with 1:41 left .  In the second quarter, BCHS got the first of several defensive stops when they stiffled SEB on an attempted fourth and 10 conversion from the Royal 31.  Dre Pitts returned a put 78 yards in the final minute.  Though the kick was blocked, BC led 16-0 at halftime.
