Bleckley looking for first football win Friday

Region 3-AA football play begins Friday for Bleckley County.  The Royals travel to Southeast Bulloch coming off a 53-17 loss last week at Wilcox County. 

In the game, BC trailed 13-10 in the second.  But the Patriots would score after a drive-stopping holding penalty on fourth down. 

They would convert a fumble and three interceptions into 28 points.  BCHS will be healthier Friday.  Ken Hughes returned this past week.  DB Savon Walters and lineman Cody Pearce were back at practice Monday. 

Defensive lineman Dalton Floyd missed Friday's game due to injuries in an auto accident and will also be back. 

Kickoff in Brooklet is 7:30 p.m.

Lady Royals to begin sub-regoin softball play versus Dodge Co. Tuesday

Sub-region softball play for BCHS will begin Tuesday when the Lady Royals host 3B-AA rival Dodge County. 

JV start at 4 pm with varsity to follow. 

Last year, Bleckley and Dodge played for the Region 3-AA championship with Dodge winning the best of three series 2-1. 

BCHS will go into Tuesday's contest  having won two of their final three International City Fall Brawl games Saturday. 

They lost to West Laurens 7-4 and had 5-2 wins versus Houston County and Locust Grove.

Bleckley Falls in Home Softball Opener

The Lady Royals opened their home season Wednesday versus West Laurens. coming off a win in the Jordan Lead-Off Invitational last weekend in Columbus.  Marlee Bryan's solo home run cut a 2-0 West Laurens deficit in half in the bottom of the second. 

Lana Maddox's two-out single in the third gave Bleckley the lead.  But they would leave a runner in scoring position in both the fifth and sixth innings.  A two-run home run in the top of the seventh gave WLHS the lead. 

Though BC got a runner to third with one out in their half of the inning, she would not score as the Lady Royals fell to 5-1 on the year with a 4-3 loss.  Bryan finished 1 for 2 and also had a sacrifice.  Lindsey Dabbs was 2 for 4.  Kelsey Darsey was 1 for 2 with a sacrifice. 

Bleckley hosts Crisp County August 23.  JV play at 4 p.m. with varsity to follow.
