Bleckley Gets Walk-off Win Versus East Laurens

After scoring six times with two outs in the second to go up 7-5, the Royals would give up six in the fourth as East Laurens retook the lead.  Down 12-9 to begin the seventh, Caleb Slaughter was hit by a pitch.  He scored on a Ben Harris double.  Harris came home on an shortstop error with two outs on a ball hit by freshman pinch hitter Zac Evans.  Cal Young drew a bases loaded walk to tie the score.  Dylan Churchwell roped a hit deep into left field to give Bleckley a 13-12 walkoff victory.  The win came 11 walks and four errors.

Churchwell finished 3 for 4 with 2 RBI.  Harris was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.  Chastain Coleman finished 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI.  BCHS hosts Wilcox County Monday.  JV play at 4 pm with varsity to follow.

Region 3-AA Pitcher of the Year Signs with GMC

Marlee Bryan became the second Lady Royal softball player this year to continue her career in college when she signed with GMC Wednesday. 

Bryan, the Region 3-AA Picher Of The Year, went 24-5 with a 1.17 ERA.  In 197 innings, she gave up 148 hits, 54 walks, and struck out 176.  Bryan also hit .346 with 17 RBI's and a .391 OBP.

Dodge JROTC Wins Big at Regions

The Dodge County HS JROTC Drill Team & Color Guard have a long tradition of performing well across south Georgia.

This year, the team is under the tutelage of MSG Damon Carver, a retired senior Non-Commissioned Officer and former Drill Sergeant. MSG Carver, the Army Instructor, is in his first year at Dodge County HS and has brought a sense of urgency and excitement to the team this year.

Recently, the team consisting of 26 cadets, took on the stiff competition at the Region Drill & Color Guard Championships at Worth County HS. Competing against 8 schools and in 8 different events, the Indian Battalion managed to bring home 7 trophies for their efforts.

Bleckley took advantage of four Dublin errors and 10 walks by Irish pitching in an 11-0 win at Bush Perry Field Tuesday.

Dodge BOE Recognizes Wrestlers

The Dodge County Board of Education recently recognized two Dodge County High Wrestlers as “Examples of Excellence” at their meeting on March 8, 2012. Tyler Gruben was recently selected to receive the 2012 Coach Rickey Parks Athlete Award for his exceptional performance as a freshman varsity wrestler.

Tyler's dedication to the team and sport are remarkable. He never missed a practice, often wrestled matches being outweighed by 25 lbs, against older opponents, and placed 3rd in the Area Tournament qualifying for the East Sectionals.

Inside the wrestling gym, Tyler is an informal leader who always searches for ways to assist his team mates. Outside of wrestling, Tyler is a gifted student maintaining a 95% average in all subjects.

For the second straight game, the Royals committed three errors. 

Bleckley's offense was held to six hits in a 9-2 loss to Howard Wednesday at the Ed Defore Sports Complex. 

Caleb Slaughter was 2 for 3 with a double, triple, and 2 RBI. 

Chastain Coleman was 1 for 2.  Subregion play begins March at Dublin.  JV play at 4 pm with varsity to follow.

Dodge Co. Wrestling Club Selects 2nd Award Recipient

March 1, 2012: Eastman, GA – The Dodge County Wrestling Club has selected J.D. Rogers as the fifth recipient of the Coach Parks Athlete Award. Rogers, an exceptional student and a varsity athlete, wrestles for Toombs County High School in Lyons, GA.

Twice qualifying for the Georgia HS State Championships, J.D. placed at the Area Tournament and the GHSA East Sectional Wrestling Tournament as a freshman and sophomore varsity wrestler. As a youth wrestler, he is a 4-time Kids State Champion and has placed 2nd twice and 3rd twice and 4th twice in Georgia in all 3 styles Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco Roman. As an 8th grader, he earned the coveted All-American designation at USA Folkstyle Nationals in Iowa.

In 2010, he was a member of the Georgia All Greco Roman Team at Schoolboy National Duals. He has competed for Team Georgia every year since 5th grade.
