BCHS boys basketball hosting instructional camp.

The BCHS boys basketball program will host an instructional camp for players in Kindergarten-eighth grade July 9-11 at the high school gym. Cost is $40 per camper, $50 after the deadline of June 8. Cost includes T-Shirt, concessions will be sold. Campers will receive instruction in the fundamentals of basketball, as well as participate in three-point and free-throw contests, plus three on three and five on five tournaments. Thursday was another busy day in the high school media center as two more athletes signed letters of intent to continue play in their respective sports.  Andrew Butler becomes the fourth Royal to sign with LaGrange College football.  As a defensive back he had 49 tackles, 36 solo, and 13 assists this year for the Royals.

 

Jasia Taylor is the second athlete this week to sign with Brewton Parker College, joining the soccer team.  Taylor's work and effort as a three-year starter were noted as a reason for her signing.

For the second time this spring, the BCHS media center hosted  a double signing as pair of Lady Royals basketball players signed letters of intent.  Jahnaria Brown will be heading north to Georgia Highlands Colege.  She averaged 18.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals.  Chania McRae will be going to Mt. Vernon to play for Brewton Parker College.  She averaged 7.8 points. 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.6 assists.

The Bleckley County High School girls tennis team won a second straight state title Saturday, defeating Berrien High School 3-2.  Wins came from Abbey Sims, and both doubles teams, Regan Cole/Jordan Williams, and Bailey Odom/Emily Sanders.

 

The boys fell to Benedictine Military Academy 3-2.  Both doubles matches were tied and pulled following three singles defeats.

Berths in the AA state championship were on the line Thursday for both BCHS tennis teams. The girls had little trouble advancing, defeating Screven County 3-0. Wins came from Abbey Sims, Caroline Thrower, and Molly Sims.   It was much more dramatic on the boys side against Elbert County. Tied 1-1, three matches went into the third set following split sets. BC pulled ahead 2-1 with a doubles win from Will Collins and Beau Williams.  A little later, the doubles team of Hunter Carden and Nick Smith won, ensuring both teams would play for a second straight state title. State championship matches will be at Rome Tennis Center May 12.
