Parts of Cochran Covered In Water

People in Cochran are wondering how to deal with flooding after heavy rains pounded the area on Monday afternoon and into the evening. Key McGuire, chief of police in Cochran, says the situation was as bad as he has ever seen it in his 20 years on the force.  He says because of the recent rains in Central Georgia, the drainage ditches in Cochran have become overwhelmed by the amount of water that's fallen recently. He says with more rain in the area, the water may continue to rise.  He urges everyone to stay inside and safe.

Cochran police were assisting one home, where a mother and child were briefly trapped inside because of the high water.  Chief McGuire said Betty Burns had to cut the power from her home and leave for the night. She did not know where she was going to spend the night. Burns said when she went to the doctor Monday afternoon everything was fine and when she came home there was water everywhere.
