Hawkinsville fire vehicle stolen from station
News

Someone stole a Hawkinsville Fire Department pickup truck from outside the department's headquarters.

Fire Chief Leslie Sewell said it happened sometime last Tuesday night, July 30 at the fire station and dispatch center on First Street, off Highway 341.

Sewell said someone went behind the fire station, which is staffed around the clock, and took the 1998 Ford 250 pickup.

"That was pretty brazen," he said.

He said the department acquired the pickup about a year ago when it was retired by the Georgia Forestry Commission.

The pickup is fitted with a pump for fighting brush fires and with red lights, Sewell said.

He estimated the value of the truck and the equipment on it at $15,000 to $20,000.

Anyone with information on the case can call the department (478) 783-1212.
