News, Transportation

The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Monday that a portion of the GA 87 Bypass would be closed beginning April 25 to allow for bridge construction over the railroad. The closure will start at Frank Cook Rd and extend to the US 23/GA 87 intersection near Sugarberry's restaurant. Motorists will be detoured to GA 87 through downtown Cochran. Maximum detour time is one year.  The work is part of a project that will widen 4.361 miles of SR 87 into two, 12-foot travel lanes in each direction with a 14-foot wide flush median.
