Sheriff: Tip Led to Phil Mincey
News

Escaped Dodge County murderer Phil Mincey was recaptured in Bleckley County Wednesday evening after a tipster told authorities where to find him.

That's according to Bleckley County Sheriff Harold Lancaster.

He said Mincey was arrested on the campus of Middle Georgia College after six days on the lam.

Bleckley deputies assisted the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task force in the arrest, he said.

Mincey, convicted of a 1985 murder in Dodge County, did not return last Friday to his work-release center in Macon.

Lancaster said officers looking for him contacted Mincey's family and warned them about the consequences of helping him.

He said one person contacted the fugitive task force and said Mincey was looking for a ride Wednesday from Middle Georgia College. He said they found Mincey on campus, "trying to fit in."

He was arrested "with little resistance," Lancaster said.

Lancaster said he wasn't sure where Mincey had been for the past six days, but said he's been returned to the state prison system, where he's serving out a life sentence.
