Lady Royals win Gold Bracket of Jeff Davis Mid-Season Classic

Fifth-ranked Bleckley had little time to be upset over their eight-inning loss to Dodge Thursday as they traveled to Hazelhurst  for the Jeff Davis Mid-Season Classic.  In their one Friday game, BCHS edged Appling County 2-1.  Playing in the gold bracket Saturday, the Lady Royals opened with a 6-3 win against Bacon County.  SunnyKate Darsey and Kelsey Darsey were both 1 for 2.  BCHS used a three-run bottom of the third, and a four-run fifth to defeat Wheeler County 7-1.  (Kelsey) Darsey was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.  Emmie Meadows and Lana Maddox were both 2 for 4.

Playing Ware County for first place, a Maddox home run and SunnyKate Darsey double made it 2-0.  Ware tied things in the fourth.  Unable to capitalize on having runners in scoring position with less than two outs in both the sixth and seventh, the Lady Royals played their second international tiebraker game of the week.  Ware led 4-2 going to the last of the eighth.  With one out, Maddox hit her second home run of the game, a two-run shot to tie things at four.  Katie Simmons' RBI single with two outs gave Bleckley a 5-4 win and first place.

Maddox finished 2 for 4 with 3 RBI.  Simmons finished 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.  (SunnyKate) Darsey finished 1 for 2.  Marlee Bryan was 2 for 4.  Lindsey Dabbs was 1 for 2 with a sacrifice.  BCHS will celebrate senior night versus East Laurens Tuesday.  Senior recognition ceremonies start at 4:30 pm, game time is 5.
