Eastman Career Center to Close

Thursday, April 12, the Georgia Department of Labor announced that it will not renew the lease for the office place that currently houses its Eastman Career Center.

According to the release, those Georgians who have been served by the GDOL Eastman Career Center, commonly called “the unemployment office” can receive services at the nearby Dublin Career Center beginning on July 1.

All eight employees who work at the Eastman location will be relocated to Dublin.GDOL officials said that the Eastman Career Center is one of seven office closures throughout the state. Others will include, Blairsville, Camilla, Elberton, Kings Bay, Monroe and Northwest Georgia in Ft. Oglethorpe. The Eastman center was chosen due to the proximity of the office to other career centers, the number of customers and staff affected, and the length and terms of the lease agreements for each office.

The GDOL will continue to operate 46 career centers statewide – which will offer a wide range of services to job seekers and employers. The GDOL has increased its online presence. Many services, including unemployment insurance claims and employer payments, already are available electronically. In the coming weeks, full registration for employment services will be available online.
