New Jail in Dodge Still Sits Empty

Just on the edge of the city of limits of Eastman, on a several-acre plot, divided from the rest of the world by trees, sits a brand new building designed to be high-tech and extremely secure.

The air-condition and heating systems run consistently during the correct seasons to keep the building from experiencing any kind of temperature damage.

An advanced security system, with high-quality cameras, monitors every movement in the building.

Except, for the last year, since the keys to the building were handed over to the Dodge County Commissioners, there has been no movement.

The Dodge County Jail, the new one, has been empty for over a year, at least since construction was finished, except for unwrapped equipment.

It is an albatross for Dodge County right now.

And Dodge County Sheriff Jeff Hinson, deputies with his office and current jail personnel want to change that immediately. But the Dodge County Board of Commissioners says no.
