Hawkinsville Family Wants Their Missing Teen To Return Home | News

The Hawkinsville community is talking about a 16-year-old girl who's been missing for nearly two weeks.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Office in Eastman says they believe Madison Conner ran away on her own free will. But normally, we don't report on missing person cases, unless law enforcement tells us that the person is somehow at risk. 

However, we took another look at Madison Conner's case because so many people are asking about her and because some of them are questioning what authorities are saying about the case.

GBI says the Madison Conner case is a top priority that everyone in their office is working on. 

"We believe that that's a dangerous spot for any child," said Todd Lowery of GBI's Eastman Office. "But we don't have any evidence that she was abducted or that any type of foul play was in her disappearance, we believe she ran away from home." 

Angela Conner, the mother of missing teen Madison Conner, said the last time she saw her daughter, they spent the night laughing together. Angela said she had no indication that her daughter was running away. She didn't realize until the next day. 
     

"She shouldn't be sleeping this late so approximately around 2:00 p.m. was when I discovered that it wasn't her under the covers, but it looked like it was her under the covers," said Conner. 

It was actually pillows piled beneath her blankets, Conner said.

The Conner family said they don't know why she left, who she was with, and where she is. They also said she has never run away 

But Angela Conner said that she did express a desire to leave Hawkinsville. 

"I think that she is a vulnerable teenager as many of them are and I am just wondering if someone took advantage of her innocence and her vulnerability you try to protect your children the best we can," said Conner. 

The GBI said they are looking at leads and they include possible contacts that Madison made over the Internet.

"And online accounts we're looking at those things we do not want to overlook any of that every possibility is out there," said Lowery. 

"I just think the Internet has not been our friend, even though we can as a parent you try to do everything you can to protect your child," said Conner. 

March 7th marked the 16th birthday of Madison Conner. And her parents said they are still shell-shocked by her disappearance. 

"I just cant, I just can't function normally," said Conner.  "I don't have a desire to leave my house right now, I just want to be here for all the phone calls and in case she walks through the door."

So far, volunteers are not out physically looking for Madison, but her family says they're leaving that to law enforcement.

Her family suspects that she might have been heading to Atlanta.
      

An Atlanta police spokesman told us late Thursday afternoon that their youth unit had not been notified of the case until we asked them about it.

    
The Conner family asks for the Hawkinsville community to leave their porch lights on from 7 to 9 to light a path for Madison to return home in honor of her birthday.
