Basketball teams swept at Veterans.

BCHS was swept in their season series against Veterans High School, losing both games played in Kathleen Tuesday night. The lady Royals lost 51-46, the Royals 57-31. It will be Senior Night when BCHS hosts Southwest January 31. Varsity tip time is 6 pm.

Bleckley County Retired Educators meeting February 5.

Bleckley County Retired Educators will meet February 5 at noon in the county extension office main building, 165 E. Peacock Street. A representative from Central Georgia Technical College will be the guest speaker. Members should contact Carolyn Mulkin by February 2 to confirm their meal.

Believe corn hole tournament will raise funds for student ministry trip to conference.

House of Grace Church's Impact Student Ministry will hold a corn hole tournament February 7 to raise funds for their annual trip to the Believe Student Conference in March.  The tournament is double elimination, first to 21 wins.  Cost is $20 per team if pre-registered at houseofgrace.life, $25 at the door.  Winning team gets $100 cash.  Registraton and practice at 6:30 pm, tournament starts at 7.  Raffle tickets for a 58-inch 4K Roku smart TV for $1 will be on sale.  Call (478)919-4792 for more information.

Down two starters, the Lady Royals offense sputtered Saturday afternoon at Perry. The Royals had three players in double figures in winning 66-51.  Click here for more.

City of Cochran to work on manhole lines next week.

The City of Cochran will be doing rehabilitation work on manhole lines January 27-February 1. According to a post on the city's Facebook page, the work will take place in the areas of Martin Luther King Drive, Second Street, and Fairground Circle. Anyone who experiences sewer issues are asked to contact City Hall or Willie Farrow immediately and to also photograph any damage that occurs during that time.

"Allie's DQ Day" will raise funds for eight-year old battling rare brain disease.

Cochran Dairy Queen Grill & Chill will hold "Allie's DQ Day" February 1.  It's a fundraiser for local resident Allie Itson, reccently diagnosed with moyamoya disease.  The restaurant will donate a portion of all sales to Allie and her family to help with medical expenses.  Activities include face painting, obstacle course, bounce house, and more.  DQ is located at 270 N. Seventh Street.

New art exhibition opening in MGA Peacock Gallery January 27.

A gallery talk and opening reception for the "Diversity & Inclusion Art Exhibition" will be held at Middle Georgia State University's Peacock Gallery January 27 at 6 pm. The exhibition will be on display through February 28. Gallery hours are 8 am-5:30 pm Monday through Thursday, 8 am-noon on Fridays. Peacock Gallery is located on the first floor of Russell Hall at MGA's Cochran campus.
