City of Cochran to hold public hearing on Urban Renewal Plan December 4.

The City of Cochran will hold a public hearing on an Urban Redevelopment plan December 4 at 6:30 pm in the Community House, 192 S. Third St. According to a post on the city's Facebook page, primary objectives will be to promote housing development and reinvestment while addressing public infrastructure problems as well as unsightly and hazardous private property conditions.

Topics to include down revitalization, blighted areas in the city, and business investment opportunities. The Heart of Georgia Regional Commission is assisting with the plan, and representatives will be on hand at the meeting to receive public comments on areas that could benefit from reinvestment.

Bleckley County Retired Educators meeting December 5.

The Bleckley County Retired Educators will hold their monthly meeting December 5 at noon. Meetings are held at the County Extension Office, 165 E. Peacock St. Contact Kathy Jones, (478)230-7047 by December 2 to confirm your meal.

BCHS splits home basketball opener.

BCHS splits home basketball opener.

The Lady Royals lost to Montgomery County 49-41 Tuesday night. Alyssa Fortune had 12 points, Jalexia Taylor scored 11. Nykeem Farrow was one of three players in double figures for the Royals with 24 points as the Royals won 77-70. Shontavian Manuel had 20 points. Mekhi Farrow added 13 points. Bleckley hosts Westside-Macon November 30. JV girls play at 4:15 pm with varsity to follow.

Financial aid meeting for BCHS senior parents December 3.

A financial aid meeting for parents of Bleckley County High School seniors will be held December 3 from 3:30-6 pm in the media center. Representatives from the Georgia Student Finance Commission will be on hand to assist in filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid.) What's happening with BCMS, BCHS sports this week.

With school starting back tomorrow. sports resume for both Bleckley County Middle School as well as BCHS. Though there was a non-region basketball game before Thanksgiving, middle school soccer is still ongoing.

Monday, teams will travel to Hazlehurst to take on Jeff Davis. Tuesday will be eighth grade recognition against Swainsboro. Games start at 3:30 pm. Both the girls and boys teams are 4-1.

Basketball will resume for the Royals and Lady Royals November 27 with a three-game homestand. That Tuesday will be the home opener against Montgomery County. Westside-Macon comes to Cochran November 30. Bleckley hosts Perry High School December 1. Varsity games start at 6 pm.

Wet weather forced House of Grace to move their showing of "The Greatest Showman" indoors Friday night. But those attending enjoyed the award-winning movie and also had popcorn to munch on.

People in droves came to Cochran Walmart Thursday night for post-Thanksgiving shopping. Since opening, people flock each year to get deals on clothing, toys, technology, and more. It was also a chance for fellowship as odds were you'd find someone you knew also braving the crowds to shop.
