BCHS Senior Signs to Run Cross Country at Georgia Southwestern

BCHS Senior Signs to Run Cross Country at Georgia Southwestern

One might say Jessi Young has done a little bit of everything when it comes to sports.  She was a member of the 2004 10 and under Cochran-Bleckley Rec. Department softball team that won state.

In middle school, her athletic endeavors included cross country and cheerleading.  In high school, she's been a competition and game squad cheerleader, and was one of 32 finalists for the GACA All-State team this year.

She'll be going to Lamar County Saturday for sectionals in pole vault.   As a freshman track runner, she finished eighth in state in the 3200 meter run.  She finished third in region in the 1600 meter run her junior year.

That running prowess paid off as Thursday she signed a letter of intent to run cross country at Georgia Southwestern University.  She will join brother Chase Young who is playing baseball for the Hurricanes.

More from Interview With 65-Year-Old Shooting Victim

RAW VIDEO:  Though Phyllis Landin of Eastman still has the two bullets in her back, one close to her spine, she was energetic and walking around on Wednesday.

65-Year-Old Shooting Victim: "I'm Not Afraid Of You"

An Eastman woman says she refuses to feel like a victim after she was shot twice in the back Monday night.

"You don't make me a victim. If you have a problem with me, man up and knock on my front door. I'm not afraid of you," said 65-year-old Phyllis Jean Landin.

She says she was outside behind her apartment off Ward Street for about five minutes smoking a cigarette. She was seated on a plastic chair against a wooden fence, and when she stood up to go back inside. "Boom, boom, boom," said Landin.

"They hit me in the back, and I hit the door and the floor," she said.

There is an apparent bullet hole in the wooden fence, close to where her head would have been. Landin says she believes the shooter was aiming for her head, and missed because she just happened to stand at that moment.

"So my response is, 'Loser! You missed me," she said.
