Eastman Fire Ruled Accidental

A fire that destroyed two Eastman businesses Wednesday afternoon was ruled accidental.

Fire officials say the fire apparently broke out in the attic of Soo's Fashion Shop on 3rd Street and Main Street around noon and spread to a nearby diner -- the Lunch Box Club at Roy's.

There was a firewall between the Lunch Box and a third business, which officials say was able to help them stop it before it spread to the entire street.

A third business, Jonathan's Salon, suffered smoke and water damage. Other businesses may also have suffered some damage.

Glen Allen, spokesman for the state Insurance and Fire Commissioner, says the fire was electrical in nature.

Construction Begins on Natural Gas Extension in Dodge County

Construction Begins on Natural Gas Extension in Dodge County

Construction on a natural gas project along Airport Road has begun this week in Dodge County.

According to Atlanta Gas Light, the current situation with natural gas in the airport area, which includes several industries and the Eastman Campus of Middle Georgia State College, already uses much of the natural gas that the current pipeline provides – hence hindering the possibility of new industries – small or large, and residential housing from coming to the area. The addition of a 4” high pressure line insures new and existing industries have adequate gas for their operations, allowing Dodge County to grow economically and industrially as more natural gas and other utilities will be available to support the growing interest in the Eastman Aviation campus of Middle Georgia State College, the Center of Innovation for Aerospace, and the Heart of Georgia Regional Airport.
