Woman Dies in Eastman House Fire

A 67-year-old woman died in a house fire in Eastman early Sunday morning.

That's according to Dodge County Coroner, Joe Smith.

Smith says it happened on Bacon Avenue. He says 67-year-old Joyce Paul was taken to the Dodge County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Smith says Paul's son, Greg Purvis, called in the fire around 12:30 a.m. He says Purvis woke up from the flames and tried to break into his mother's bedroom window, where she was, at the time of the fire.

He says crews fought the blaze from 12:30 to around 3:15 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Bleckley Man's Legacy Continues

Bleckley Man's Legacy Continues

Jack Miller was the type of fella who didn't meet a stranger - everyone he met became a friend in an instant, it seemed.

The owner of Sand Hill Feed and Pet Supplies was in the middle of doing what he loved to do May 9, Wednesday - working - when he started feeling bad. He went to sit down on a stool at the counter, and his wife, Edna said, "He hit the ground."

In spite of admirable rescue efforts by a friend and local ambulance service, Jack Miller died of a mass heart attack.

His wife and daughter have been overwhelmed with kindness of "strangers" and have decided to continue his legacy. For more on the story, click here.

Y96 Raises Money in Radiothon for Children's Miracle Network

You still have time to help out the folks at Y96 Radio as they raise money for the Children's Hospital of Central Georgia.

This is the second day for the Y96 Radiothon which finishes up Wednesday afternoon. Last year the station raised $29,000 for Children's Miracle Network.

Disc jockey Lee Fountain says the cause is close to her heart.

"Sometimes, it can get really hard on you to talk about the stories that are going on, but you have to remind yourself it's really hard on the parents upstairs, too, that have to stay in this hospital and that are treated everyday and the nurses and staff. It's a child-friendly environment," Fountain explained.

For the first 80 minutes, soccer fans sat breathlessly inside Royal Stadium as Bleckley and AA defending champion Westminster battled to a scoreless tie.  Neither would score in a pair of five-minute overtime sessions.  That would mean penalty kicks.  BCHS would miss their first but make the next four.  Those scoring were:  Jacob Waters, Blake Lucas, Marcus Mack, and Thomas Lopez.

Westminster made all five,  Marshall Glover had the game winner.  The Royals finish 10-4, 8-2 in Region 3-AA.  This year's senior class finishes with two region titles, a region runner up, and three state playoff appearances.
