Community Music Performance Features Music Therapy Students

Music in Motion, the Harmonettes Handbell Choir, the Jungle Royales, Circular Motion and Good Vibrations are five of the groups that, with the help of the Music Therapy students of Georgia College and State University, will perform original songs such as “Giddy-up Gangsta” and “Head for the Mountains” in a free concert.

That's according to a Creative Expression Studio news release.

A special solo piano performance by Shawn Greene, organizer of the local 5K Greene Mile Race will also be a highlight of the evening.

"All About Us" is a musical concert featuring original songs written by performers with disabilities from the Life Enrichment Center and the music therapy students at Georgia College & State University.

The event will be held on Thursday, April 19th at 10 a.m. at the Goldstein Center on the Georgia Military College campus.

Bobberthon Tags Bream around Central Ga. for Prizes

This year marks the third annual Bobberthon tournament in Central Georgia.

For the next five months, fishermen all around Dodge County, along the Ocmulgee, at Hugh Gillis and Flat Creek can find select bream with colorful tags attached to them that say "Bobberthon."

The release from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Division says that if an angler catches a tagged bream, he/she needs to remove the tag from the fish (whether keeping the fish or releasing it) and return and register the tag at the Go Fish Education Center by October 1, 2012. The Center is located off I-75 at exit 134.

The Bobberthon started on April 1 and continues until October 1.

Royals Unable to Maintain Hot Start Versus Dodge

Royals Unable to Maintain Hot Start Versus Dodge

Cochran was the site of a battle for first in 3B-AA when Dodge County traveled to Cochran to take on Bleckley.  The Royals scored three runs in the second inning with two outs to make it 5-1.  Dodge's Aron Chick settled down, holding BC to just three hits for the rest of the game.  He would hit the game-tying home run in the fifth.  The Indians took the lead on an error.  Ben Harris and Cal Young singled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but there would be no comeback in a 6-5 Royals loss.

Chastain Coleman was 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI.   Young and Caleb Slaughter both went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.  Thursday's home game versus Northside has been cancelled.  BCHS returns to action April 10 in Dublin.  JV play at 4 pm with varsity to follow.

Royals Survive Late Scare Versus East Laurens

While there wasn't a walk off ending Friday when Bleckley traveled to East Laurens, it was another close game between the Royals and Falcons.  Dylan Churchwell connected on the game's first pitch to put BC up 1-0.  Five runs with two outs in the second made it 6-0.  ELHS would hang around, cutting the deficit to 6-3 after two, then 7-4 after five innings.  With BCHS leading 9-4 in the bottom of the seventh, EL's Travis Roach connected on a two out, three-run home run to make it 9-7.  Kace Kirkpatrick came in and struck out the next batter to preserve the Royals win.

How 'Bout Some Friday Night Baseball

How 'Bout Some Friday Night Baseball

Forget Friday Night Football - how about Friday Night Baseball? All three baseball teams from the tri-county area played Friday night, and the only score not in at press time was Dodge County's scores against Dublin.

The Bleckley County Royals seemed to have forgotten the stream of losses from last week, and won again, this time against East Laurens 9-7 in a vital region match-up. Cal Young is pictured at bat for BCHS below, from a previous game, and the photo is used with permission by Monaca Robinson.

Deadly Wreck in Bleckley County

A Cochran man died in a Bleckley County car crash early Friday morning.

Sergeant K.E. Deloach at the Georgia State Patrol post in Dublin says it happened just before 1am Friday on Ruth Church Road.

He says 30 year old Christopher Travis Long of Cochran was driving a 1993 Jeep Cherokee and lost control of the vehicle near a sharp curve.

Sergeant Deloach says Long over-corrected and hit a tree.

Long was pronounced dead at the scene.

All four passengers were taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia, one by life flight.

Toxicology reports will determine if alcohol played role in the crash.
