A Hawkinsville man is in custody after running a stop sign and leaving the scene of the resulting accident.

According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, just before 11 p.m. on August 22, Cornelius Bozeman ran the stop sign at Highway 112 and Highway 87, crashing into the rear of Susan Long's Ford Explorer.

As Long's vehicle rolled, her passenger, 22-year-old Andrew Smith, was thrown from the vehicle but only suffered minor injuries. The crash report says he was not wearing his seat belt.

Trooper Chad Harrison told 13WMAZ that Bozeman was on probation at the time and told investigators he was nervous. He claimed he didn't know what to do so he left the scene.

Bozeman told investigators he ran the stop sign because it was foggy.

You Can Help Design New Wildlife Plate

(AP) - A state agency wants residents to help it select designs for four new wildlife-themed license plates.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is collecting votes online for the new car tags through Sept. 15. A share of the money raised by each license plate will help fund wildlife conservation and habitat restoration.

Two of the tags will benefit nongame conservation and possible designs feature the blue heron, a green tree frog, the bald eagle, the painted bunting and the North Atlantic right whale.

The DNR's Wildlife Resources Division will also pick designs for two other tags to benefit bobwhite quail and trout species in Georgia.

The website to cast votes is http://www.georgiawildlife.com .
