Supporter, Opponent Discuss T-SPLOST

Interest and questions grow around a proposed one-cent transportation sales tax--or T-SPLOST--on the July 31 ballot.

It's predicted to generate more than $750 million for 11 Central Georgia counties over a ten-year period.

Those counties -- Bibb, Houston, Monroe, Peach, Pulaski, Twiggs, Crawford, Baldwin, Jones, Putnam, and Wilkinson -- will vote as a single district.

That means either they'll all approve it, or none of them will.

State Representative Bubber Epps supports the T-SPLOST and local Sierra Club spokesman Lindsay Holliday says he'll vote no.

Both joined Randall Savage in the 13WMAZ studio during Eyewitness News at 6.

Bleckley Football Player Signs with Valdosta State

Bleckley County football coach announced another Royal signing from the 2011 team, and as Barrs heads into retirement, he says this signing will be his last one.

Zack Moe, a veteran of three sports, will head to the Valdosta State Blazers as a wide receiver. He played special teams, offense and defense. He was a Royal for three years and finished with the second most tackles on the team as a strong safety.

Moe says hard work and heart got him to where he is now and knows he can bring those same traits to the Blazers.

Explaining the Regional Transportation SPLOST

Wednesday on Eyewitness News Mornin', 13WMAZ's Randall Savage talked to Georgia State Senator Cecil Staton about what would have to happen for an eleven county Central Georgia region to collect a regional transportation tax.

If approved, Staton says it could generate more than $748 million to fund transportation projects in the Middle Georgia Regional Commission's 11 counties.

Those counties include Bibb, Houston, Baldwin, Crawford, Jones, Monroe, Peach, Putnam, Pulaski, Twiggs, and Wilkinson.

Staton says collection would begin on Jan. 1, 2013.

Voters will decide on the issue July 31.
