Coaching Changes from Bleckley BOE Meeting

There were coaching changes involving both Bleckley County High School and Bleckley County Middle School coming from Tuesday's regulariy scheduled Board Of Education meeting.  Kathryn Land was hired as a cheerleading coach for BCHS.  Land's primary job will be competition coach, replacing Angela Jones.  Jones remains a teacher at BCHS and announced her resignation as coach to the squad in November.  Lynn Young and Jenny Brooks also return as cheerleading coaches for BCHS.

The board approved Bleckley Middle School's athletic staffing plan for 2012-13.  In that plan are a pair of new coaches.  Phillip Hart, BCMS baseball coach, will be the new Lady Barons softball coach.  Hart replaces Greg Collins, who remains a teacher at BCMS.  Jennifer Kitchens returns as assistant softball coach.

Dodge County Standoff Ends Peacefully

A Dodge County man is in jail after police say he tried to shoot his wife with an assault rifle.

Captain Tony Winborn with the Dodge Count Sheriff's Office says 47-year-old Olen Hogan and his wife had been fighting for several days.

When she tried to escape the house on Glen Hickman Road early Tuesday morning, Winborn says, Hogan fired shots at her, then barricaded himself inside the home.

Bleckley Man's Legacy Continues

Bleckley Man's Legacy Continues

Jack Miller was the type of fella who didn't meet a stranger - everyone he met became a friend in an instant, it seemed.

The owner of Sand Hill Feed and Pet Supplies was in the middle of doing what he loved to do May 9, Wednesday - working - when he started feeling bad. He went to sit down on a stool at the counter, and his wife, Edna said, "He hit the ground."

In spite of admirable rescue efforts by a friend and local ambulance service, Jack Miller died of a mass heart attack.

His wife and daughter have been overwhelmed with kindness of "strangers" and have decided to continue his legacy. For more on the story, click here.
