March 1 Hearing Set for Killer's Early Release

A Dodge County woman released a year early, after being convicted of killing an infant, will stay free for at least another six weeks.

That's according to Tim Vaughn, district attorney for the Oconee Judicial District.

In 2009, Amy Rogers Jones was convicted of killing a three-month-old girl that she was babysitting. Investigators called it a shaken-baby case.

But a clerical error by the Dodge sheriff's office, set her free last month, a year ahead of schedule.

Vaughn says he filed a motion this week asking a judge to send Jones back to prison.

On Friday, he said, Judge Sarah Wall set a hearing date on his motion for March 1.

He says the judge's letter said Jones should get at least 30 days notice on the hearing.

Cochran Church Honors Three Of Its Oldest Members

A Cochran church took time out to honor three of their oldest members on Sunday afternoon.

The church celebrated three women who were a century old or more.  The honorees were 100-year-old Bessie McCrimmon, 101-year-old Ionia Glenn and 102-year-old Sallie Cony.  All three women received a sash with their name and age and a plaque.

It was part of Ward's Baptist Church's 11th annual 'Man of Honor' program.  Church members say the program is designed to honor different people within the community.

"It makes you feel proud... I think that the life you live speaks for you," said Cony.

Organizer Otis Simmons says his favorite part of the program is being able to show his appreciation to people in the community.

Guest speakers at the program included the President of the Bleckely County NAACP, Sean Battle.
