GSP: Alcohol May Have Caused Fatal Dodge Co. Wreck

An Eastman man died in a possible alcohol-related wreck during a police chase early Saturday, according to Trooper Jeffery Taylor, Georgia State Patrol.

The wreck happened just after midnight on Saturday at the intersection of Sweet Home Church Road and Old Milan Road.

Milan's police chief spotted a 1998 Ford F-150 swerving, Taylor said.  After the chief's cruiser got behind the truck, the truck sped up and lost control.

The chase lasted a few miles, crossing into Dodge County, he said.

24-year-old Travis Johnson of Eastman died on the scene, Taylor said.  Another man was also in the truck.

Taylor says the other man's name has not been released.

He says they're not sure who was driving the truck.  No arrests have been made.

March 1 Hearing Set for Killer's Early Release

A Dodge County woman released a year early, after being convicted of killing an infant, will stay free for at least another six weeks.

That's according to Tim Vaughn, district attorney for the Oconee Judicial District.

In 2009, Amy Rogers Jones was convicted of killing a three-month-old girl that she was babysitting. Investigators called it a shaken-baby case.

But a clerical error by the Dodge sheriff's office, set her free last month, a year ahead of schedule.

Vaughn says he filed a motion this week asking a judge to send Jones back to prison.

On Friday, he said, Judge Sarah Wall set a hearing date on his motion for March 1.

He says the judge's letter said Jones should get at least 30 days notice on the hearing.
