Brianna Carey's Broccoli Cheese Soup

1 32 oz. carton chicken broth
3 large potatoes diced (Yukon Gold with skin on is what I use)
1 cup chopped fresh broccoli (or 1 box frozen chopped broccoli)
2 cups milk
4 tbs. flour
1 lb processed cheese (Velveeta) cubed

Bring 1st 3 ingredients to boil and cook until potatoes are tender. Mix milk and flour together and stir until lumps are gone. Add to soup. Reduce heat to low and add cubed cheese. Allow Cheese to melt completely throughout before serving.

Variations: Instead of broccoli, add 1 can of corn and 1 cup of cooked cubed chicken for a hearty Chicken Corn Chowder. Or add 1-2 cups cooked cubed ham for Ham and Potato Soup. Or add 1 can crab meat and 1lb cooked shrimp for a delicious Seafood Chowder.

Trial Date Set for Accused Pulaski County Killer

A Dec. 12 trial date has been set for a Hawkinsville man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend this summer.

Birago Blackshear, age 33, appeared in Pulaski County Superior Court Monday and pleaded not guilty to murdering 18-year-old Ashton Bartlett.

That's according to Tim Vaughn, district attorney for the Oconee Judicial Circuit.

In June, Blackshear was accused of shooting Bartlett in the back on McDuffie Street, Hawkinsville, when she came with a male friend to talk to him.

She later died in a local hospital.

Vaughn says a judge set the December trial date, which is subject to change. He said prosecutors must provide the defense with case files on the investigation, but his office doesn't have all those files yet.

Bleckley Survives Second-Half Scare Versus Swainsboro

Tavon Ross a pair of touchdown runs as well as two touchdow passes and Blake Lucas banged home a career-long 47 yard field goal as Bleckley carried to the dressing room a 32-13 halftime lead versus Swainsboro.  However, things would get interesting in the second half.  Three Royals did not play due to injury.  Zack Moe (who caught one of Ross's touchdowns) went out with a deep thigh bruise.  Frankie Mullis suffered a hip pointer.  Mario McClendon spent the second half on crutches due to a sprained ankle.
