County, Cities Begin Local Option Sales Tax Negotiations

Dodge County and the cities within it are beginning negotiations for the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) distribution.

At a called meeting in the Dodge Superior Courtroom, Dodge County Attorney John Harrington presented facts showing population changes according to the 2000 Census and 2010 Census for the various cities and unincorporated Dodge County. In 1999, population did distribution of the LOST.

Bleckley Loses Close Game to Dublin

Due to region scheduling, Bleckley and Dublin have played the past two seasons in Cochran.  Both games were close contests won by the Irish late.  Friday's matchup was at the Shamrock Bowl.  Despite the different location, it was another close game.  For the Royals, it was another close loss to the Irish.

Bats struggle as Lady Royals fall to Crisp County

Wednesday's Bleckley-Crisp County game played in Cordele was scoreless for three innings.  In the fourth, Marlee Bryan plated Lana Maddox with a sac fly.  Maddox had led off the inning with a deep fly ball that was dropped. 

The resulting error had her on third. 

Crisp scored two runs in their half of the fifth. 

SunnyKate Darsey broke up what was a no-hitter with two outs in the seventh.  BCHS would go on to lose 2-1. 

They finish the regular season Saturday at Schley County.  Game time is 10:45 a.m.

Dodge County Man Killed While Stealing Car Parts

A Dodge County man was killed while he was trying to steal car parts, according to the sheriff's office.

Capt. Tony Winborn says 46-year old Mark Rowland, also known as "Bubba Red," of Eastman was found pinned under an abandoned car at a garage on Fred Bohannon Road Sunday morning.

Investigators say Rowland had mechanical tools with him and had already partially unhooked the catalytic converter from the car.

Winborn says that's when they believe the car fell off the jack and crushed him.

Coroner Joe Smith said it looked like Rowland had been dead for eight to ten hours.

Royals Get Past East Laurens for Football Win

Bleckley had won their last three games versus East Laurens going to Friday's contest in Cochran.  It was a busy night as both the Royals and Falcons were taking part in "Change For A Cure" as part of childhood cancer awareness month.  Buckets were set up to collect change, all of which went to the Joanna McAffee Foundation For Childhood Cancer.  Players from both teams wore a silhouette of McAffee on their helmets.

Bleckey Finishes First, Dodge Second, in Region 3B-AA Standings

Thursday was the day that playoff seeding for the upcoming region playoffs would be decided as both Bleckley and Dodge had their final subregion games.  Bleckley played at Dublin High School and won 27-0. 

Dodge rallied from a 6-5 deficit to win 11-6 at East Laurens. 

Based upon the tiebreaker of region runs allowed, BCHS will be the top seed from the subregion in the upcoming playoffs.  Both teams will host first-round series.  Last year saw Bleckley and Dodge make it to the region championship series with Dodge winning two games to one.

Bleckley plays on September 21 at Crisp County.  Game time has been moved to 5:30 pm.  Dodge plays Monday at Northside, Warner Robins.  Start time is 6 p.m.
