Unlicensed Dodge County Club Raided

Several people were arrested during a raid that shut down a Dodge County club. That's according to Sheriff Jeff Hinson.

He says undercover officers purchased alcohol from Dubois Clubhouse and Events center, but the county is considered dry.

Erica Simmons reads the cease-and-desist order on the door of her fathers home, which doubles as a clubhouse .

"This is really supposed to be a club, but we haven't established that yet," said Simmons. "So we were' just opening up for free nights."

That's what Simmons says was happening Wednesday night when Dodge County deputies raided the establishment when about two dozen people were inside.

On Thursday, several others who came back to their former hangout say the owners did nothing illegal

"I've been out here several times, and I've never seen no kind of money swap no hands," said Tammie Spires.

Lady Royals celebrate senior night with win over East Laurens

Bleckley closed out their home regular season Tuesday versus East Laurens.  Before the game, senior ballplayers and parents were recognized.  When it was time to take the field, it was a good finale for the seniors as a pair of four-run innings powered BC to an 8-0 win in five innings.  Marlee Bryan gave up one hit and struck out six.  Katie Simmons was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.  Taylor Little and Lana Maddox were 2 for 3.  Kelsey Darsey was 1 for 2.

Thursday closes out sub-region play when BCHS plays at Dublin.  Game time is 5 pm.  Of note is Dodge County's sub-region finale Thursday at East Laurens at 5 pm.  Both teams are tied in 3B-AA standings both have allowed the same number of runs.

The next tiebreaker is region runs allowed.

Dodge currently has the edge in that tiebreaker as they shut out East Laurens in their first meeting while Bleckley won 15-2.

Inmate Dies at Macon State Prison

Inmate Dies at Macon State Prison

An inmate at Macon State Prison has died from undisclosed causes.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Gwendolyn Hogan confirmed Tuesday that a Macon State inmate had died and that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.

But Hogan declined to disclose additional information about the inmate including his name and when and how he died.

That's the second time in two weeks that DOC officials have declined to release information about an inmate.

Two weeks ago, inmate Philip Mincey walked away from his work-release program and was on the lam for several days before he was captured.

Mincey had been sentenced to life after being convicted of murder in Dodge County.

At the time of the escape, DOC officials declined to disclose details such as where Mincey was assigned to his work release program, who released him to work release and whether Mincey would be charged with escape for walking away from the program.
