Mrs. Ethel Sanford 1921-2013

 

MRS. ETHEL BOWEN SANFORD, age 91, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, February 22, 2013, at Heart of Georgia Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, February 24, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Rhine, with Rev. Tommy Land & Rev.  Chuck Taylor officiating, with interment in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Sanford was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, a homemaker, daughter of the late Lola Jump Bowen & Jim Bowen and widow of Tommy M. Sanford, Sr.  She was preceded in death by a Son – Tommy M. Sanford, Jr., Granddaughter – Tiffany Lininger, Great-Grandson – John Marshall Land, 7 Sisters – Edna Mackie, Lizzie Hulette,   Claude Hilliard, Ester Spires, Ruby Spires, Randi Hatten & Etta Reeves and 3 Brothers – Richard “Dick” Bowen, George Bowen & Bill Bowen.

Sharon C. Johnson

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Sharon C. Johnson, 49, of Cochran who died Monday, February 11, 2013 in the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Fritters Restaurant, 2401 Hwy.26 East with Rev. Mark Shaw officiating.

Sharon was born in Winter Park, Florida, the daughter of the late Paul and Clara Jane Broadhirst Chapman. She had lived in Cochran for the past 5 years having moved from Haines City, Florida to open a horse farm and later Fritters Restaurant with her husband.

Survivors include her husband, Alan D. Johnson of Cochran; two brothers, Don Chapman and David Chapman, both of Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Dwight Purser

 

Funeral services for Mr. Dwight Purser, 79, of Cochran who died on Monday, February 11, 2013 in the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Lane Collins and Rev. Bob Price officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Purser was a lifelong resident of Bleckley County, the son of the late Henry Jackson Purser and Essie Richardson Purser. He was the widower of Betty Meadows Purser after 54 years of marriage.  He was a graduate of Cochran High School and retired from Robins Air Force Base. He was a member of Cool Springs Masonic Lodge and Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

Ben Drew Cravey

 

MR. BEN DREW CRAVEY, SR., age 87, of Hawkinsville, GA, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, Macon.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, February 8, at First United Methodist Church of Hawkinsville, with Rev. John Walker and Rev. Blake Westbrook officiating, with interment in Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery, Milan.

Mavis Lutrell Thigpen Harrell

 

MRS. MAVIS LUTRELL THIGPEN HARRELL, age 67, of Chester, GA, died Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Bleckley Memorial Hospital, Cochran.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00PM Saturday, January 26, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Dewayne Bynum officiating, with interment in Pleasant Olive Cemetery, Chester.

 Mrs. Harrell was of the Holiness faith, a 28 year retired employee of Lithonia Lighting Company and daughter of the late Artie Faye Sellers Wynn & Nelson Thigpen.  She was preceded in death by a Daughter – Melissa Allen, Infant Grandson – Gordon Randall Allen, Sister – Etta Mae Argo and 2 Brothers – Raford Thigpen & Escol Thigpen.

James R. Hopwood 1934-2013

 

MR. JAMES ROBERT HOPWOOD, age 78, of Milan, GA, died Tuesday,

January 15, 2013, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, Macon.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, January 20, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Myron Parkerson officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery with Military Honors.

Mr. Hopwood, born in Fillmore, Illinois was of the Baptist Faith.  He was a 20 year retired veteran of the U. S. Army and longtime employee at Milan Tractor Company.  He was son of the late Fannie Carlock Hopwood and Earl Hopwood and was preceded in death by His Wife- Mary Bumann Hopwood,  Daughter- Mickey J. Giddens, Granddaughter- Melissa Jo Palmer, and Sister- June Littleton.

Virginia Wade Hallett

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Wade Hallett, 103, of Cochran who died Monday, January 14, 2013 will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Price and Rev. Alan Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Hallett was born in Twiggs County, the daughter of the late Hayward and Martha Findley Wynne. She was the widow of Fulton Frank Wade and Lloyd Hallett. She was retired from Robins A.F.B. and the oldest member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and a member of Perry Eastern Star.

Survivors include a daughter, Adair (Jerry) Rambo of Cochran; son, Wyndell (Nell) Wade of Kathleen; five grandchildren, Ricky Wade of Kathleen, Ken (Liz) Wade of Winston-Salem, NC, Don Rambo, Mike (Becky) Rambo and Scott Rambo, all of Cochran; six great grandchildren.
