Merita Forbes-Mullis 1935-2012

 

MRS. MERITA HENDRIX FORBES-MULLIS, age 77, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, October 15, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, October 18, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Ronnie Jones and Rev. Jack Sheffield officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Forbes-Mullis was a member of Central Baptist Church, a retired inspector for Lithonia Lighting, daughter of the late Ethel Smith Hendrix & General Hendrix and widow of James Richard Forbes, Sr. & Melvin “Buddy” Mullis.  She was preceded in death by 2 Sons – James Richard Forbes, Jr. & Larry Dale Forbes and 4 Brothers – Julius Hendrix, Sr., J. D. Hendrix, Jack Hendrix & Jerry Hendrix.

Survivors:  Daughter – Debra Jean Jones (Charles) of Jacksonville, FL.; 

Charles R. Cook

 

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Ronald Cook, 78, of Macon who died Friday, October 12, 2012 at his residence will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday in the Chapel of Fisher Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Waldren officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cochran

Mr. Cook was born in Columbus, the son of the late Charles W. Cook and Barbara Beatrice Martin Cook. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a former teacher at Columbus Middle School where he was a coach and a principal and a teacher at South Georgia College. He was retired from the Department of Corrections as a counselor.

He was of the Baptist faith and an avid Bulldog fan. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Blue Cook.

James Anderson Kitchens

 

Funeral services for Mr. James Anderson Kitchens, 68, of Danville who died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma and lung cancer will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday in the Chapel of Fisher Funeral Home with Elder Franklin Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Allentown City Cemetery.

 Mr. Kitchens was born in Twiggs County, the son of the late Tommy and Dora Lee Horne Kitchens. He was a 1961 graduate of Twiggs County High School. He was retired from Glass Service Center in Macon and was an avid golfer and longtime member of Uchee Trail Country Club. He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise K. Collins, a brother, J.M. “Spud” Kitchens and his step-mother, Mozelle Floyd Kitchens.

Burma W. Bridges

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Burma West Bridges, 76, of Cochran who died Tuesday, October 9, 2012 in Seale, Alabama will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Bridges was born in Hancock County, the daughter of the late Steve and Lena Johnson West. She was the widow of Eugene Bridges. She was a member of Beulah Springs Congregational Holiness Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a son, Willis Bridges and a sister, Hazel Grenade.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Wanda (Joey) Sinkule of Seale, Alabama and Wendy (Robert) Davis of Macon; 2 sons, Wendell (Theresa) Bridges of Macon and Wade (Winnie) Bridges of Montrose; 2 brothers, Jerry West of Montrose and Steve West of Deepstep; sister, Patsy Stewart of Eatonton; 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild.

The family will meet friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday night.

Mrs. Elva Rouse, age 94, of Eastman died Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at her residence.

Funeral services will be at 1p.m., Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Eastman First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Peele officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church social hall.

Mrs. Rouse was born in Wayne County and lived the past 65 years in Eastman.  She was a member of Eastman First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Leonard  Rouse; daughters, Lynn Timmer and Catherine Harrington (Scooter); son, Alan Rouse (Maureen); grandchildren, Mike Rouse (Holly), Bryan Rouse, Shawn Rouse, Alana Bryant, Christi Brownlow, Bobby Rouse, Stephen Rouse, Alysa Rouse, Jimmy Carroll, Candi Carroll, Casey Cook (Bissy), Wil Harrington (Melia), and Ellen Harrington; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her son, Meric Rouse.

Merle L. Leonard

 

MR. MERLE LESTER LEONARD, age 88, of Eastman, GA, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Heart of Georgia Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, October 4, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Len Kight officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Leonard was a First Lieutenant, a B-29 Pilot and a WWII veteran.  He attended First Presbyterian Church and was a retired state fire marshall.  In his retirement he built remote control airplanes and was known as “Merle The Marvel” around the Middle Georgia area for his ability to repair crashed R.C. models.  He was son of the late Florence Kelly Leonard & Elba L. Leonard and was preceded in death by a Great Granddaughter – Kyara Dzenis and Brother – Jim Leonard.

Jack Harrell 1940-2012

 

September 30, 2012 at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, October 2, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with Dr. Donnie Sutton and Dr. Robuck Burch officiating, with interment in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Mr. Harrell was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, a retired employee of Warner Robins AFB, a member of the Harrell Family Gospel Group, an avid collector and loved to race homing pigeons. He was also an affiliate of the Macon Pigeon Club.  He was son of the late Mavis Sheffield Harrell & Frank “Buddy” Harrell and was preceded in death by a Son – Don F. Harrell, Sister – Emily Loyd and Step-Mother – Jewell Blankenship Jones-Harrell.
