Former BCHS football coach leading effort to honor those who serve.

Former Bleckley County High School head football coach was the guest speaker at yesterday's Memorial Day program held on the courthouse square.  He spoke about a project to help honor servicemen, both past and present. While on a trip to Ringgold, he saw American flags that wood bases that display the name and branch of service for both current and veterans of the military.  Barrs was inspired to have the same done in Cochran. So, he got approval from city council and began selling the flags here.

He said he wanted to do this to show appreciation to all who serve and have served, adding he makes no money off the flags. Each flag is $100 and will be displayed by the city the week before and after July 4 and Veterans Day. Flags will be placed along West Dykes and Second Streets. The deadline to order for July 4 is June 1, October 1 for Veterans Day. Call city hall, (478)934-6346, for more information.
