Gov. Launches Design Contest for New Car Tags

 

Gov. Nathan Deal announced today that the Department of Revenue will host a contest to design for a new Georgia license plate.

The design contest will begin on Monday, May 23. The deadline is Friday, June 17. 

Individuals are asked to submit original artwork. Any Georgian citizen or business authorized to do business in the state of Georgia is welcome to enter the contest.

The public will be given a chance to choose three semi-finalists through an online vote from June 24-July 8. After the online voting, the three semi-finalists will be presented to Gov. Deal.

He will then announce the winning design on July 15.

Townhall Meeting with Austin Scott

Austin Scott will host a townhall meeting in Eastman on May 17 at 1 p.m. in the Dodge County Courthouse on the 2nd Floor in the Court Room.

bin Laden photo thoughts?

CBS News just reported that President Obama told their reporter he would not release photos of Osama bin Laden's corpse.

"We don't trot out this stuff as trophies," Obama told CBS, according to quotes provided by White House press secretary Jay Carney. "We don't need to spike the football."

Obama also said release of the gruesome photos could become "an incitement to additional violence" and be used by jihadists as "a propaganda tool."

"That's not who we are," Obama said.

Phone Bank for Disaster Relief Today on WMAZ

Today 13WMAZ joins the Red Cross to raise money for disaster relief after the tornadoes in the South.

During newscasts at Midday, a special one-hour newscast at 5 p.m. and again at 6 p.m., you will be able to call a phone bank in our studio, where Red Cross volunteers will be ready to take your pledges of support.

BCMS coach/teacher wins Parent to Parent Educational Impact Award

BCMS coach/teacher wins Parent to Parent Educational Impact Award

Bleckley Middle School baseball coach and social studies teacher got a surprise visit during lunch Thursday.  Debi Tucker, executive director of Parent to Parent of Georgia, along with Hunter Heath and his Margaret Spielman, as well as members of Hart's family, all came by as Tucker announced that Hart had won the Parent to Parent Educational Impact Award. 

Tucker said over 14,000 people voted online.  She described the results as "pretty much a runaway win" for Hart.

Hart learned of the results during the lunchtime gathering. 

In his remarks, he gave credit to last year's team for their acceptance of Heath as manager. 

Hart recalled how he met with team informing them of Heath joining them after Spielman had met with him to ask about her son participating by doing things such as picking up foul balls and cleaning out the dugout.

Annual United Way Meeting Scheduled

The Annual United Way meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 12.

The meeting and dinner will take place in Pine Forest Methodist Church's Fellowship Hall.

Dinner begins at 7 p.m.
