Cochran All Star Teams finish second in tournaments

It's "tournament season" in Bleckley and surrounding counties.   Those tournaments are invitational softball and baseball tournaments that all star teams from local recreation departments play in to get ready for sub-district and district.  Two Bleckley teams picked up second place trophies in tournaments played Saturday.  The 11-12 boys finished second in a tournament played in Cochran.  Undefeated going into Saturday's championship game, Cochran lost 13-9 and 2-0 to Telfair County.  BC's second tournament will be in Eastman starting Monday.

In McRae, the 9-10 boys (who won Friday night) fell into the loser's bracket Saturday morning.  Winning three more games, they faced Wheeler County for first place.  Trailing 6-1, Bleckley tried to rally but came up just short as they lost 6-4.  They will also be in Eastman starting on Tuesday.

The "UnAshamed" youth group will begin a project June 6 entitled "Servolution."

According to a release sent by the group, they will be performing "random acts of service" in the hopes that people will make it a part of their everday lives.  The week's activities include Monday handing out water at Walgreens on the corner of second street in Cochran, bagging groceries at both Harvey's and Piggly Wiggly Wednesday, a visit with the residents of Bryant Health and Rehab on Thursday, and will be capped with a car wash on June 11.

That day, the youth will split into two groups.  One will be at Big Bubba's Chicken located on Ninth Street in Cochran, the other will be at O'Reilly's Auto Parts in Hawkinsville.  A special "UnAshamed" service at House of Grace Church on June 6 will also be part of the week.

The service is entitled "MIFIT Stand Up."

bin Laden photo thoughts?

CBS News just reported that President Obama told their reporter he would not release photos of Osama bin Laden's corpse.

"We don't trot out this stuff as trophies," Obama told CBS, according to quotes provided by White House press secretary Jay Carney. "We don't need to spike the football."

Obama also said release of the gruesome photos could become "an incitement to additional violence" and be used by jihadists as "a propaganda tool."

"That's not who we are," Obama said.
