Bleckley County prepares for 2011 Relay for Life

Bleckley County raised $47,465.

The top earning team was FairyTale Nails who raised $7,243.  Amye's Angels was a close second raising $6,985.

Linda Warren is this year's chairperson.  She introduced other committee members in attendance.  American Cancer Society senior community manager Heather Gilbert, who works with area RFL events, said that if Bleckley County raised $100,000 this year, she would shave her head.  She had told Houston County that she would do that if they raised $400,000.

This year's Relay for Life will be held on May 6 at the Middle Georgia College soccer field.  For more info or to volunteer, go to www.relayforlife.org/bleckleyga

On Nov. 9, 2010, the 2010-11 Leadership Dodge session focused on the economic impact of education in Dodge County.

Dr. Darrel May, Superintendent of the Dodge County school system, presented an overall view of the District’s economic impact as Dodge County’s largest employer, as well as the District’s focus on providing an academically competitive education in accordance with state and federally mandated standards.

The motto of the Dodge County School District, Dedicated to Our Desire to Graduate Everyone, serves as a reminder of the importance of the role of each teacher, staff member, administrator, parent and community partner as an integral component of successfully equipping students with the knowledge and skills to contribute to the future economic development of Dodge County.

Challenges facing the Dodge County School District include an increased focus on students with disabilities and continuing budget cuts.
