Since Walmart came to Cochran, people have consistently come out the night of Thanksgiving to get a jump on their holiday shopping. This year was no exception as hundreds packed the aisles looking for deals.

Bleckley County Retired Educators meeting December 4.

The Bleckley County Retired Educators will hold their monthly meeting December 4 at noon inside the main building at the County Extension Office, 165 E. Peacock Street. Members should contact Carolyn Mulkin by December 1 to confirm their meal.

Rain ends day early for local travel team.

Local-based 10 u softball team was in Cordele Saturday for the USSSA Fall State Championships.,  They were about to begin bracket play but rain forced cancellation of the tournament.

House of Grace to offer free Thanksgiving meal to needy.

House of Grace Church will offer a free Thanksgiving meal to the homeless or anyone in need November 28 from 11 am-2 pm. Though the meal will be offered at their Hawkinsville campus, 83 Liberty Street, free transportation from Cochran will be offered. Anyone needing a ride should be at the Flash Foods on Second Street at 10:30 am. Call Greshian Humphries, (404)456-5340 for more information. If possible, you are also asked to call if transportation is needed to ensure there will be enough room available.

Saying thank you to all who serve or have served.
 It was a time to say “thank you” to those who served or are serving at a Veterans Day program held on the courthouse square. It featured a performance of the national anthem by Royal Singers member Luke Wrye, the presentation of colors by American Legion Post 107, as well as remarks by county commissioner Bob Brockman and mayor Billy Yeomans. Guest speaker was Bleckley Primary principal Quent Floyd who shared his experience as a veteran of the US Navy and how different people from different areas with different values had to work together for a common goal.

Story Time at the Library November 20.

Story Time at the Tessie W. Norris/Cochran-Bleckley Library will be November 20 at 10 am.  Presented by the Bleckley County Retired Educators, reader will be Lynne Sanders.
