MGA art faculty shows they're artists also.

A reception and gallery talk was held for the Middle Georgia State Faculty Art Exhibition Monday. It features pottery, painting, prints, and drawings done by university faculty members John Skelton, Shannon Riddle, Lee Simmons, and Charlie Agnew. The exhibit serves as a demonstration to students that the teachers are also artists. The exhibit will be on display inside Peacock Gallery, located on the first floor of Russell Hall at Middle Georgia State University. Hours are 8 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday, 8 am to noon on Fridays.

Bleckley Retired Educators meeting March 6.

The Bleckley County Retired Educators will hold their monthly meeting March 6 at noon in the main room at the county extension office, 165 E. Peacock St. Please contact Kathy Jones, (478)230-7047, by March 3 to confirm your meal.

Bleckley NAACP membership drive March 2.

The Bleckley NAACP chapter will hold a membership drive at Turner Chapel AME Church from noon to 1 pm. Free hot dog plates will be given away. For more information, contact membership chair Michelle Basby, (478)319-9983. The church is located 163 N. Seventh Street.

Promise of Hope seeking help with supplies for new program.

Promise of Hope men's campus in Cochran are seeking help with household items for a new program. Items needed include twin mattresses, box springs, rugs, pots and pans for the kitchen, paper towel holders, bedside lamps, and rugs for both the bedroom and bathroom. Trying to fill a desperate need.

With last month’s government shutdown as well as winter weather in many locations, the American Red Cross has a desperate need for blood. Monday, they were trying to fill the need with a drive at the Bleckley County Extension Office. While numbers were low possibly due to it being President’s Day, volunteers appreciated all who donated. The next drive will be April 22.

Local softball player named MVP at tournament.

Though she plays with another team, Mallory Sears has been helping out with The B-Team, a new travel softball team designed to help local players get better and prepare for the next level of school ball.  Saturday, she picked up with them in their debut at Southern Pines.  Sears was voted by the umpires as tournament MVP.

Story Time at the Library February 20.

Story Time at the Tessie W. Norris/Cochran-Bleckley Library will be February 20 at 10 am.  Presented by the Bleckley County Retired Educators, readers will be Alice and Dale Mullis.
