Softball tournament helps kids with back to school shopping.

Softball tournament helps kids with back to school shopping.

Though school is already in session, a couple of local residents decided they wanted to do something to help children purchase clothing and supplies for school. So, Scott Williams and Shane Savant organized a co-ed softball tournament that was also sponsored by Bret Huett and Country Financial, held at the Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department Saturday.

It had seven teams, players from Bleckley, Dodge, Pulaski, Laurens, and Bacon Counties. A home run derby was held, won by BCHS Junior Brody Little. Weather did affect the tournament. There was an hour rain delay, the championship game between the Whompers and Benchwarmers was called in the fifth due to lighting. Both teams were declared co-champions. The tournament raised over $1,500.
