Dodge Superior Clerk Wants Commissioners to Change Minds

Dodge Superior Clerk Wants Commissioners to Change Minds

Toward the end of last year, the Dodge County Commissioners, on a recommendation from former County Manager, Kelly Bowen, approved asking county employees to take furlough days - which are unpaid. The thought behind this was that it would help the county which is already in dire financial straits according to the admissions of Dodge County Commissioners.

Clerk of the Superior Court Rhett Walker asked the commissioners to reconsider this decision several times, and when he received no responses, through an attorney hired by Walker, a letter was sent to the county commissioners, interim county manager Bobby Peacock and the county attorney making this request again.

Dodge County Sheriff : Every Jail Isn't the Same

Dodge County Sheriff : Every Jail Isn't the Same

For more than a decade, some say, there has been tug-of-war competition going on between the governing officials of Dodge County and the sheriff's office.

Some say there hasn't.

A new jail to house the prisoners in Dodge County has been needed for at least 20 or more years, though plans didn't begin to be implemented until two administrations ago leaders say. The old jail, located on the lot of the Dodge County Courthouse directly next to a local daycare center, is feasible, but not for long - with holes in the walls, leaky ceilings and security risks all around.

Boys and Girls Club of Dodge County Has New Unit Director

Boys and Girls Club of Dodge County Has New Unit Director

Shala Smith, 26, has only been in her job as unit director for the Boys and Girls Club of Dodge County for a few months, and already, the Dodge County native, seems like a veteran.

Shala, who worked at the club during the summers when she was in college, already knows the kids by name. “We have about 170 enrolled and there are about 125-130 active.” Where most directors might be found closed up in an office, working on reports and more, Shala doesn't do that.

Well, not from the hours of 3 to 7 p.m., that is when the kids are at the club, and that is where Shala can be found – among the kids. “That is what I am here for, that is what the club is here for.”
