Middle Georgia State University President Dr. Christopher Blake will discuss his new book "And Half the Seed of Europe: A Genealogy of the Great War 1914-1918," October 25 at 6 pm inside Russell Hall Auditorium in Cochran. The event is sponsored by Middle Georgia State's Student History Organization.

A sellout crowd jammed the Bleckley County High School auditorium Friday night for the second of two performances of Seussical.  If you missed either, or want to see the show again, the Region 3-AA One Act Play championship will be held October 24 at Washington County High School.  BCHS performs at 4:15 pm.  Note, per GHSA rules, photography and videography are prohibitted during all performances.

Anti-bullying event coming to BCMS.

Willie Raines, leader of The Power Team, and motivational speaker, will bring his "Only You Can Prevent Bullying" event to the Bleckley County Middle School gym October 24 at 6:30 pm.  Parents of all Bleckley students are invited to attend.  Topics to be discussed include anti-bullying, drug and alchohol awareness, academic excellence, and character building.  Light refreshments will follow.

BCMS cheerleaders overcome adversity to win.

One of the most jarring, unsettling things that can happen to any cheerleading squad during a competition is to have their music malfunction.  That happpened to the Bleckley County Middle School cheer squad while competing at the Sweet Onion Cheer Classic hosted by Vidalia High School Saturday.  In the middle of their routine, the music just stopped.  However, BC would go on, sticking everything and won first place in the A/AA division.  They return to action October 28 at the Rumble in the Jungle hosted by Swainsboro High School.

Bleckley County High School One Act Play will hold community performances of this year’s selection, Seussical, October 17 and 20.  It will be the third time BCHS has done the play for their competition piece, winning region the previous two times.  Start times are 7:30 pm that Tuesday, 7 pm on Friday.  Admission is $5 adults, $3 students.

BCMS softball wins region softball title.

It's been a good season for Bleckley County Middle School softball.  They swept Dodge County and split with West Laurens en route to securing top seed for the MGMSAA playoffs.  Saturday, the Lady Barons capped their season by defeating fourth seed JR Trippe 11-3 then winning the school's first region softball title since 2005 with a 5-2 win against West Laurens.

Middle Georgia State University holding live Facebook chat about Dual Enrollment Program October 12.

For parents and students interested in enrolling in college before high school graduation, Middle Georgia State University will hold a live Facebook chat with Maggie Schuyler, Assistant Director of Admissions, October 12 from 6:30-7:30 pm.  Qualified students can begin taking college classes for credit while still in high school through dual enrollment, formerly known in Georgia as Move On When Ready.
