BCHS soccer teams close out regular season with sweep of Jefferson Co.

Royal Stadium was a busy place Wednesday as the BCHS soccer teams had their final regular season games versus region opponent Jefferson County.  Goals by Blake Lucas and Thomas Lopez gave the Royals a 2-1 halftime lead.  In the second, Lopez scored again, Marty Souza had two goals, and seniors Gjorgi Karanikolov and BJ Durham scored as Bleckley won 7-1.

Between games, senior players were recognized.  In girls action, Ashley Burton had a first half hat trick as the Lady Royals led 3-1.  Jefferson got within 3-2 with about 14 minutes left but Amber Lucas got the clincher with 3:03 left as BC completed the sweep 4-2.

The boys finish second in 3-AA, the girls fourth.  Girls will play at Thomasville Friday at 3:30 pm, the boys will host Fitzgerald in the first round of state April 28.  Game time is 6 p.m.

Bleckley FFA Forestry Team Wins Area

The Bleckley FFA Forestry Team won the Area 3 Foresty Field Day Career Development Event held April 19 at Fort Valley State University.   

Those placing in events were: Darren Crews, 1st Timber Stand Improvement, Ricky Sikes, 1st  Tree Identification, Brandon Nobles, 1st Land Measurement, Gabe Outlaw, 1st Reforestation, Jon Googe, 1st  Board Volume Estimation, Matt & Brooks Jones,  2nd Forest Management, Desmond Josiah, 3rd  Forest Disorders, Spencer Kirkpatrick,  3rd Ocular Estimation.   

They advance to state competition May 4 in Swainsboro.

BCHS sweeps home soccer matches versus Laney

Ashley Burton had two goals, Hayley Nobles scored, and Malika McFane had her first goal of the year as the Lady Royals beat Laney at home 4-0 Tuesday. 

The Royals had an 8-0 first half lead versus the Wildcats.  In the second Jacob Tilley scored and Ross Bennett got the game-clincher in a 10-0 win. 

BCHS hosts Jefferson County to end the regular season. 

Boys play at 5 p.m. with girls to follow.  Senior players will be recognized between games.

Bleckley Caps Baseball Senior Night with Walk-off Win versus Dodge

Tuesday was senior night in Cochran as Bleckley played what was the rubber match of their sub-region series with Dodge.  Each team had won on their home field.  Before the game, senior players and managers were recongized.  As to the game itself, the Indians jumped out to a 3-0 lead.  Kyle Brown's first high school home run capped a four-run bottom of the third.  DCHS retook the lead with four runs in the top of the fourth.

BCHS would have the bases loaded in both the fourth and fifth innings with one out but be unable to score.  Aron Chick's second home run of the game, a solo shot in the sixth made it 8-4.  In the bottom of the seventh, Cody Jones doubled to lead off.  He came home on a Bryant Trice single.  Jordan Perdue (who had been hit by a pitch) scored on a passed ball.  Dusty Jones was hit with the bases loaded, making it 8-7.

Public Cyber School to Host Info. Session

Georgia Connections Academy (GACA), the state’s first full-time K-12 virtual charter school, is hosting a local information session to educate parents and families about GACA’s unique curriculum, which uses technology and more to deliver individualized education for each student.

The information session will be held Wednesday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the SpringHill Suites in Macon.

That's according to a GACA news release.

Because GACA is a Georgia public school, there are no costs for tuition, fees or supplies.

Georgia Connections Academy can enroll students in grades K-12 from anywhere in the state, and will offer a high-quality, highly accountable, tuition-free public education option.

Enrollment is now being accepted for the 2011-2012 school year.

Bleckley Unable to Hold Early Lead at East Laurens

BCHS came into Friday's game at East Laurens needing a win to help secure the second seed from 3B-AA for the upcoming region playoffs.  A three-run first got things started.  After stranding two runners in the third,  ELHS cut the lead to 3-2.  Jordan Perdue was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth but was left stranded. 

The Falcons took the lead with five in their half of the inning.  The Royals had two on, one out in the fifth.  An attempted double steal saw one runner tagged out at home and the other stranded at second.  Dylan Churchwell got his first varsity hit and RBI in the sixth.  Churchwell went in when Cal Young suffered what was later diagnosed as a broken thumb in the first inning.
