Bleckley Unable to Complete Comeback in Region 3-AA Consolation Game

Down 12 at the half to East Laurens Saturday, Bleckley opened the third on a 16-3 run to take a one-point lead.  However, they would be unable to sustain the rally as they fell 75-64. 

Marcus Mack finished with 21 points, Brentine Taylor and Vidal Nelson scored 10 each.

BCHS finishes as the fourth seed in Region 3-AA. 

They will open the state playoffs on February 26 at Thomasville, the top seed in in 1-AA.  Game time is 7 pm.

The Royals led 34-29 at halftime of Friday's Region 3-AA semifinal game at host Swainsbor Friday. 

But a Tiger 12-0 run over the final two plus minutes put Bleckley in a 48-42 hole going into the fourth. 

Foul trouble was also a factor as Brentine Taylor picked up his fourth foul late in the third quarter and the team had ten fouls early in the fourth.  BCHS lost 67-53.  Taylor and Vidal Nelson both scored 11.  Ken Hughes had 14.

Bleckley will play for third place Saturday versus East Laurens.  Tip time is 5:30 p.m.

BCHS Soccer Teams Swept in Home Opener

The Bleckley County High School soccer program has had to start over in a way this season. 

Both teams lost seniors.  Kevin Pych, who started the program and led the boys to a state playoff berth in just the program's second season, is no longer there. 

Thursday, Bleckley hosted perenial soccer power First Presbyterian.  BC was swept as the boys lost 6-0, the girls 10-0.

After traveling to Hebron Christian Saturday, the Royals begin Region 3-AA play February 22 at home versus Dodge County. 

Girls play at 5 p.m. with boys to follow.

Michael Marks’s exhibit “Fragments” recently opened at Middle Georgia College’s Peacock Gallery in Russell Hall. Marks gave a Gallery Talk to MGC students, faculty, and friends on January 24.

“Fragments” is interested in how past works of art are investigated; for example, through digital means, such as zooming in on individual paint chips, said Charlie Agnew, an associate professor of art at MGC and the Gallery Director of Peacock Gallery, a Middle Georgia College news release says. 

Marks is also interested in why paintings last and what happens to them over the years.

“Fragments” is also concerned in how the meaning of works changes as the work is altered over time. But Marks doesn’t promise to have all the answers. “I don’t have the final say,” he said. “‘Fragments’ is a process; it’s not explicit, but more ambiguous.”

Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra to present concerts of "Pure Pleasure"

The Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra (OSO) will be in concert February 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hawkinsville Opera House and will perform February 27 at 3:30 p.m. at Wesleyan College. 

It will be the fourth concert series of the season for the OSO entitled "Pure Pleasure."  Maestro Adrian Gnam, conductor laureate  of the Macon Sympthony Orechstra, will conduct the performances. 

Said OSO founder, artistic director, and conductor Dr. Charles Quinn in a news release  “The combination of these pieces are simply pure pleasure for those who play and unquestionably for those who hear them. It will be enjoyable for me to see Adrian conduct the OSO; he has a style of conducting that only comes from years of experience.”  

Gnam is currently Director of the International Conductors Workshop and Competition, Assistant Professor of Music at Georgia Southern University and Distinguished Artist-in-Residence at Mercer University.

Lady Royals Fall in First Round of Region

The Lady Royals trailed 38-33 going into the fourth quarter of Tuesday's Region 3-AA tournament opener at Swainsboro. 

Though going through a long field-goal drought, they would stay close until less than three minutes remained. 

However, the Lady Tigers went on a 12-2 run over the final two plus minutes as Bleckley saw its season end 61-47. 

Tyresha Williams had 19 points.  Rickenya Jenikns finished with 10. 

The Royals play in the Region 3-AA semifinals Friday night in Swainsboro at 8:30 p.m.

Middle Georgia College Hosts Time Management Workshop

A  workshop discussing time management will be held Wednesday, Feb. 16th

The workshop will take place from 2 p.m until 3 p.m. in Roberts G19 at Middle Georgia College.
