Boys Win Bear Brawl Championship, Girls Finish Second

Brentine Taylor had his second straight double double (28 points, 14 rebounds) and Vidal Nelson, Marcus Mack, and Raykel Anderson all had 12 points as Bleckley won the boys Bear Braw title over Carver 78-66.  Nelson made the all-tournament team.

Down 15 in the fourth, the Lady Royals cut a 15-point deficit to five.  But they could not complete the comeback as Bleckley lost the girls championship game to Warner Robins 60-50.  Nyaisa Anderson had 14 points.  Rickenya Jenkins finished with 13.  Tyresha Williams made the all-tournament team.

The Bleckley girls are off until Jan. 4.  The boys play Dec. 27 in the Jones County Christmas Tournament. 

Their first opponent is Putnam County.  Tip time is 2:30 p.m.

Vidal Nelson had 27 points and 12 rebounds and Brentine Taylor had 25 points with 10 boards as the Royals advanced to the boys championship game of the Houston County Bear Brawl with a 78-62 win over Dublin.

Tyresha Williams scored 18 as the Lady Royals won over the host Lady Bears 49-43 to make it to the girls championship game.  Bleckley will be playing in its first Brawl championship games since they started playing in the tournament in 2008.  The girls play Tuesday at 7 p.m. with boys following at 8:30 p.m.

The Lady Royals trailed by as many as 18 points in the second quarter of their opening Bear Brawl game versus Carver, Columbus.  Bleckley took the lead in the third and went on to win 61-53.  Tyresha Williams had 16 points.  Tia Troup finished with 13 and Rickenya Jenkins added 11.

Down 36-33 at the break, the Royals used scoring runs of 7-2 in the third and an 11-1 run in the fourth to rally past Warner Robins 84-70 in their Bear Brawl opener.  Brentine Taylor had 43 points.  Ken Hughes added 10.

Bleckley's boys play Monday at 5:30 p.m. with the girls scheduled to play at 7p.m.

Rickenya Jenkins had 14 points, Nyaisa Anderson 11, and Tia Troup added 10 as the Lady Royals won at home versus Telfair Friday 65-31.

Brentine Taylor had 17 and was amongst for Royals in double figure as the boys finished the season sweep 83-34. 

Bleckley plays in the Houston County Bear Brawl begining Saturday. 

The girls play Carver at 10 a.m. with the boys taking on Warner Robins at 2:30 p.m.

Though leading 24-23 at halftime, the Lady Royals suffered their first loss 60-48 to Northside at home Tuesday.  Tyresha Williams had 16 points.  Rickenya Jenkins finished with 10.

The Royals overcame an early 14-1 deficit to remain unbeaten on the year as they defeated the Eagles 77-67.  Brentine Taylor had 29 points.  Vidal Nelson added 12.  Quan Fleming scored 10 off the bench.

Bleckley hosts Telfair County Friday.  JV boys tip at 4:15 p.m. with varsity games starting at 6 p.m.

BCHS Drama Department Raises Funds for MDA with Christmas Show

The Bleckley County High School Drama Department hosted its Christmas show Monday at the high school auditorium.  This year's show is entitled It's Christmas Again, And It's All For Ben!  Proceeds from the show will go towards the Muscural Dystrophy Association in honor of Ben Masters, son of BCHS principal Dr. Michelle Masters.

Monday's show featured a variety of student musical performances as well as comedic skits and dance numbers.  Skits were written by the students.  Audience members were invited to sing along when the entire cast performed Let There Be Peace On Earth, and We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

There will be one more performance Dec. 16 Thursday at 7 p.m.
