Bleckley County High School has a new place to display its many achievements as well as those of Cochran High School. A trophy case dedication ceremony was held Sunday afternoon. Organized by former coach and administrator Ben Dykes, he collected $25,000 in donations for the $16,000 case. Dykes was also responsible for many of the plaques on display inside. Unbeknownst to him, a small plaque on the front of the case recognizes him as well as former coach Billy Padgett.

Boys basketball coach, other news, from Tuesday BOE meeting.

It was a busy Tuesday night for the Bleckley Board of Education at their monthly meeting.  Garrett Collins was promoted from middle school to high school boys head basketball coach.  A tentative budget was set.  To read more, click here.

BCHS Graduation May 26.

Bleckley County High Schoo will hold graduation ceremonies May 26 at 9 am inside Royal Stadium, 242 East Dykes Street.  Click here to view the list of candidates for graduation.

BCHS Royal Singers Spring, Senior, concerts May 19.

The BCHS Royal Singers will hold their spring and senior concerts May 19. The spring concert will be at 4:30 pm, the senior concert will take place following a brief intermission. Admission is $5 adults, $3 for children and students.

Reverse beauty pageant raises funds for Buddy Ball.

There was something different about the contestants in a beauty pagent held Friday night in the BCHS auditorium.  Some of the names were unique, Ivory Bliss Nesbit.  They had wigs, some wore tennis shoes.  These "ladies" were actually male BCHS students participating in the first ever Miss Royal Reverse Pageant.  A fundraiser for Buddy Ball, donations from People's Choice awards went into a check presented to organizer Danette Rogers.  The pageant raised $592.41.

Bleckley BOE accepts resignations, fills position, as part of called meeting.

The Bleckley Board of Education held a special called meeting Tuesday night for whole board training as well as action on personnel matters. They accepted the resignations of teacher, assistant football coach, as well as head boys basketball coach Randall Owens plus middle and high school band director Steve Whitaker. According to the minutes, each are effective June 30. Matthew McClellan was hired as new band director. The profile on Owens' Twitter account states he is now an assistant football and boys basketball coach at Veterans High School.
