Called Bleckley BOE meeting February 7.

A special called Bleckley Board of Education meeting will be held February 7 at 7 pm. The purpose of the meeting will be to act on a personnel matter and any other business to come before the board. The meeting will be held at the Board of Education offices, 242 E. Dykes St. A new high school football coach will be named at the meeting.

Middle Georgia State to hold Nursing Degree info sessions February 8.

Middle Georgia State University will hold information sessions about bachelor's and associate's degree programs in Nursing February 8 inside room 104 of Roberts Library on the Cochran campus. Sessions will be 11 am-noon and 2-3 pm. Nursing faculty will be on hand to discuss what prospective students need to know about applying and what to expect after enrolling. Anyone seeking information about admissions criteria, class schedules, clinical sites and cost estimates are invited to attend.

Bleckley Elementary Winter Festival February 2.

Bleckley Elementary will hold their annual Winter Festival February 2 from 5:30-7:30 pm.  Games (Bingo, giant Jenga, Plinko, golf game, basketball toss, more) pizza parlor, hay ride, and a bouncy obsticle course are some of the activities planned.  Admission is $2 per person.  Games four for $1 or 25 for $5.

Donations of cakes for the cake walk, candy, and drinks are sought.  They can be left in the school office on or before February 2.

Bleckley School District looking for band director.

The Bleckley Board of Education accepted the resignation of band director Scott Mathews at their monthly meeting Tuesday night.  It's effective at the end of this school year.   Mathews was hired in the summer of 2012 following the retirement of Louis Foster.

Middle Georgia State's Kappa Sigma Fraternity now a chapter.

A colony of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity was formed on the Cochran campus of Middle Georgia State University 14 months ago.  Saturday night, the colony became a chapter.  Members from what's now the Upsilon-Zeta Chapter, school officials, as well as members from other areas, were in attednace for an installation banquet celebrating the event.
