BCHS CTSO's collecting food for needy at Christmas parade.

Bleckley County High School Career Technical Student Organizations such as FBLA and HOSA will once again do the "Parade Pantry" during the Christmas parade December 2.  Members will be pushing lighted grocery carts to accept canned food goods that will be donated to people in need locally.  You can also drop off donations at the Chamber of Commerce, 102 N. Second St.

Construction projects discussed at Bleckley BOE meeting.

Walt Altman and Leah Finklang, members of the school system's architect's Altman+Barrett Architects, attended Tuesday night's Bleckley Board of Education meeting. They made a presentation to the board regarding the planned high school gym expansion and plans to build a new primary school. Three options for contractor selection were provided: hard-bid, design-bid-build, and CM At-Risk. According to board minutes, no recommendation was made but the information would be used in future planning sessions.

Middle Georgia State University waiving application fees during November.

Governor Nathan Deal has declared November "Georgia Apply to College Month," a project sponsored by Communities in Schools of Georgia, the Georgia Student Finance Commission, Georgia Department of Education, the Georgia Independent College Association, the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, the Technical College System of Georgia and the University System of Georgia. During November, the agencies will invest extra effort in providing high school seniors an opportunity to apply to college using GAfutures.org.

To show support for the effort, many colleges and universities including Middle Georgia State are waiving the application fee for all who apply during the month. BCMS hits it one more time to become two-time champions.

BCMS hits it one more time to become two-time champions.

The theme of this year's Bleckley County Middle School competition cheerleading routine was "Hit me Bleckley one more time."  At Dodge County Middle School Thursday, BCMS did just that, winning the MGMSAA Region Cheerleading Championship for a second straight year.  It's the first back to back championship forBCMS since 2006-07.

Encore of BCHS One Act Play performance to benefit local woman's kidney transplant fund.

Bleckley County High School One Act Play will hold an encore performance of this year's selection The Music Man, Jr., November 8 at 7:30 pm in the high school auditorium.  Admission is $8 per person.  Proceeds will go toward the kidney transplant fund of Wilene Foster.  Foster is a longtime local music teacher and widow of Louis Foster.

Tuesday was "Souper Hero Day" at Bleckley County Middle School.  Many students and faculty donned their favorite super hero shirts.  Special guests for the second annual event done as part of Red Ribbon Week were first responders as well as Cochran Police Officers, Bleckley Sheriff's Deputies, and members of both the Cochran and Bleckley County Fire Departments.  They enjoyed a special lunch which included soup, sandwiches, salads, and deserts.

In speaking to students during lunch, Principal Michelle Dyal said the purpose of the day was to "honor the local super heroes who look after us and keep us safe."
