Provision in Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act will allow students in Bleckley to receive free meals.

If you have a child who attends Bleckley County Learning Center (Pre K), Bleckley Primary, Elementary, or the Success Academy, they'll receive free breakfasts and lunches this year, regardless of family economic status.  That's because of a provision in the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act passed in 2010.

The act contains a Community Eligbiility Provision which allows for free breakfasts, lunches, and snacks (for children in an eligible afterschool program)  to be provided to all schools if 40 percent of students in the schools receive either SNAP (Supplimental Nutritonal Assistance Program) benefits or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.  Students at the eligble schools can receive the free meals (if they're consumed on campus) without any additional paperwork.

Bleckley BOE adds schools to receive new security service.

At Tuesday's monthly meeting, the Bleckley Board of Education voted to install Seilox services for both the middle school and Success Academy.  Originally planned for BCHS this year, the change came after it was learned that a grant for school safety that will pay for the service did not require matching funds.
