O’Bryan Reviews Dodge Retail Profile at Chamber Board Meeting

Jim O’Bryan, Georgia EMC Manager of Retail and Commercial Development presented an overview of Dodge County’s retail profile at the Eastman-Dodge County Area Chamber of Commerce board meeting on Thursday, May 24, 2012.

O’Bryan’s presentation focused on how Dodge County’s population, demographics, and location affects its ability to recruit businesses, like chain restaurants and big box stores such as Target and Longhorn Steakhouse. O’Bryan urged attendees to shop locally to support and grow Dodge County’s financial resources and strengthen its retail portfolio.

Monthly board meetings of the Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce are held the fourth Thursday of each month at noon in the Chamber Hall. The community is welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information, please call 478-374-4723 or visit www.eastman-georgia.com.

Dollar General Market open this summer in Bleckley

Dollar General Market open this summer in Bleckley

The construction site on Ga. 26 beside Woody Butts Chevrolet and behind the Royal Stadium at the old Bleckley County High School in Cochran had 'tongues wagging' from the far corner of Bleckley County to the south corner of Dodge County and back to the middle of Pulaski County, even before the foundation for the building was poured.

The question was simple “What is it going to be?” Pretty soon it was determined that it was going to be a Dollar General store, bigger than the ones located in Eastman, Hawkinsville and a block away in Cochran.

Emily Weiss, company spokesperson for the Dollar General corporation, told the Tri-County Monitor on April 20, that it is not going to be 'just another Dollar General store – it is going to be a Dollar General Market.”

Fried Moon-Pies, Fritters and More Out in the boonies of Montrose

Fried Moon-Pies, Fritters and More Out in the boonies of Montrose

It is out in the boonies, and unless you know you are going there, you might miss it - well, maybe not - it is the only Southern-style home with an old stage coach house and Gypsy Vanner horses for miles around.

They'll make you anything you want - steaks, fish, shrimp, a Fried Goober - yes, a Fried Goober (a double decker peanut butter and jelly sandwich), Fried Moon-Pies, and they will serve them with an R.C. and of course, an endless supply of fritters.

Fritters at Saje Plantation in Montrose, Georgia is the diamond in the rough - a treasure in the middle of farmland and acres of field on the road between Cochran and Dublin, and it would be well worth the trip for a visit or two.
