Contraflow due to hurricane evacuations to close part of I-16 East.

Due to the mandatory evacuation of coastal Georgia counties because of Hurricane Dorian, contraflow will take place tomorrow on I-16 East. Starting at 8 am, I-16 East at Exit 39 will be closed to allow four lanes to be used for travel west. The closure is from Dublin to Savannah. All westbound lanes of I-16 will have normal operations.

GDOT to restrict construction-related lane closures for Labor Day weekend.

Because of expected heavy traffic this Labor Day weekend, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that construction-related lane closures on interstate highways as well as major state routes that directly serve key tourist and recreation centers would be suspended from August 30 at noon until September 3 at 5 am. A release reminds motorists that crews still may work in proximity to highways and some long-term lane closures could remain in place due to safety concerns. Also lane closures could happen on any route due to incident management or emergency maintenance.

Portion of East Peter Street to close August 26.

East Peter Street, between South Fifth and Lower Fifth Street, will close from 8 am to 8 pm on August 26 for the replacement of culvert pipe. Closures will take place over the next 2 to 3 weeks at to be determined times while the project is completed.

Change coming to Cochran Bypass/Dykes Street interesection.

If you’ve ever had to go halfway into the road while waiting to turn left at the Cochran Bypass and Dykes Street intersection, relief is coming. The Georgia Department of Transportation announced via social media “lagging left turn phases” would be implemented into all four corners of the intersection. On August 1, there will be traffic interruptions while contractors activate and sync up the system. What it means is, traffic going straight will go first, then those in the left lane will receive a signal to turn left.

Intersection in Cochran to close July 22.

The intersection of Porter Road and Westside School Road will close July 22 for the repair of storm water drain pipes on Westside School Road. Travel on Porter will not be affected according to the Cochran Police Department. Work is expected to be completed by August 2.

Georgia DOT announces lane closures on Eastman-Cochran Highway starting July 8.

As part of the Eastman-Cochran highway widening and reconstruction project, crews will be laying drainage pipe along a six-mile stretch starting July 8. That work will result in lane closures. Click here for more.

Georgia DOT suspending lane closures for July 4 weekend.

To help ease traffic during the July 4 holiday, the Georgia Department of Transportation is suspending construction-related lane closures on interstate highways, heavily traveled state routes and roadways near major tourist and recreation locations. The restrictions start July 3 at noon and last through 10 pm July 7. Motorists are reminded to exercise caution as crews still may work in proximity to highways and some lane closures may have to remain due to safety concerns. Also, incident or emergency maintenance lane closures could take place at any time on any interstate or state route.
