A candlelight “Vigil of Remembrance” was held to honor those affected by gun violence Saturday night at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. It was sponsored by the Dre Day Foundation, a newly-formed group who’s stated mission is to “provide a cultivating support system for teens and young adults as an alternative to gun violence.” The foundation was created by family and friends of former Bleckley student Deandre Pitts who was shot to death in February. There was special music, several speakers including a call to action by Mt. Zion Pastor Alton Walker. You can learn more about the Dre Day Foundation by visiting them on Facebook.
